Hello Fishos
I am wanting to get into some jigging on my next trip up north and was wondering if
anyone has any advise on best colours, size, make, set up of jigs?
Any favourite colours or brands????
Cheers tight lines.

I prefer cheap jigs so I
I prefer cheap jigs so I don't cry when mackerel steal them.
With my pe2 outfit I use slow pitch style jigs in the 40-100g range in 30 - 40m of water
Colours I prefer are bright green/yellow,orange and pink
Usually I get stock from neap tackle. Anything under $10 is best up here

If you in the right area and have the jig working
Right in front of the fish, I don’t think it matters all that much. On a recent trip to Exmouth we had a mate on board that had never jigged before in his life. Prior to the trip we went shopping at bcf because he had a heap of vouchers from his b’day. Whilst there he asked what sort of jigs would I buy (which at bcf the answer for me would be none)hahaha. He bought a handful of kato (bcf’s own brand) China jigs already rigged with assist hooks etc.
we went out on a jigs only day, and within 3 twitches of his first ever jig hitting the bottom he was on big. 45 seconds or so later, a nice 5-6kg rankin is on board and he says “not sure what you blokes are in about, this jigging sh@t is easy” hahahah. He proceeded to catch 2 fish to my 1 on this bloody China 150g kato jig, and I jig all the time with some of the best jigs and assist hooks going around.
In summary, make sure you are using the right weight jig for the conditions (don’t go too heavy you want good action) and be sure there are fish clearly on the sounder, and you are a good chance with any brand jig.
