MILESTONE MULLOWAY
Since way before I caught my first Mulloway i was hooked on trying to catch these awesome fish. It took me years to catch my first size one then about 10 more years to catch my first big one.
In the past few years ive sussed them out a fair bit and have caught quite a few between 13 and 18kg from quite a few different locations but as any one who targets these fish know the holy grail is a 50lber (well in WA at least).
Well finally I got my fish of a life time, in the last place i expected it. This fish went 23.53kg or 51.87lb and one i will not forget for a long time.
It is also a new club record in my fishing club Ocean Reef Sea Sports Club beating the very long standing old record of about 22.5kg.
For those that were wondering it was caught on a live Yellowtail.
Very proud moment for myself so I thought id share.
Cheers Belly

Length
The length was 138cm and the girth was 81cm. Interestingly, the previous club record (which has been held since 1975) was 22.22kg and had a length of 140cm and a girth of 71cm. This was a fat fish. For reference, the stomach contained the Yellowtail (which was the bait), 7 or so smalish Cobbler and 1 Flathead probably about 25cm long.
The reason I know a bit about it is I gaffed it for my young bloke, and I'm the records keeper for the ORSSC.

horse of a fish, gotta love
horse of a fish, gotta love that
When asked by a non-fisherman 'how many fishing rods do you really need?' the correct answer is either:
n+1 (where n is the number of fishing rods you currently own); or
n-1 (where n is the number of fishing rods which would cause your significant other to dump you.

Cheers again every one.. Still buzzing almost a week after it was caught :-)
The fish was caught off the local jetty in a sleepy little town somewhere between Cervantes and Greenhead ;-)
FROFA you will get one mate as it said took me years of targeting them to nut out secrets that increase your chances then it's a little bit of luck but eventually you will be rewarded!!

RIG
Very simple rig mate....
Braided line with a 3m 100lb flouro carbon wind on leader with a 7/0 hook tide on the end.
No weight swivels or anything. Yellowtail just pinned near the top fin, free to swim around as it wishes.
Hope that helps :-)
