Monte's Sept '13
Submitted by Camo.W on Mon, 2013-09-23 15:31
Got back last week from a trip from Exmouth to the Monte's and back on Top Gun 2. My brother books the boat out every year for the past 4 and this was my second trip, and what a trip it was with so may PB's and first time captures it was amazing.
4 of us fished nothing but artificials for the trip, between Ockta jigs, Knifes and soft plastics, with the Ockta's out fishing everything about 5 to 1 including the bait.
My most memorable captures would be the double header 77cm trout (new PB) with a 22kg Malabar cod on ockta jig, my sailfish, 17kg Mackie (new PB, heaps of GT's on jig and 10 trout all on jigs.
Anyhow here's some pics for your viewing pleasure.

lol...Hey Brucesta
lol...Hey Brucesta,
Was looking at either the first or second week of school holidays when I booked this trip and ulimately settled on the first!
My mate is super pissed now as he's mad Dockers supporter and told me to sell his ticket on the fishing trip to anyone who wants it cause he's going to Melbourne for the GF.
Was contemplating advertising it on here to see if anyone was interested but as it turns out he ended up with crap seats from the ballot and I ended up selling his GF tickets now anyway so he's coming whether he likes it or not now!!!
Sandra said don't bring any fishing gear with you due to the baggage allowance on the flights being only 20kgs. I started of with a rod and some jigs at first and now I'm up over 16-17 kgs of fishing gear and still going.
I'm off to go get some more Octo jigs right now!!!
Do look out for the bragging guys. It might not be all of us but I'll be one of them for sure...lol.
The miserable looking one will be Feral cause The Dockers flogged the Hawks and he missed it....hahahaha

looks awesome - gotta say
looks awesome - gotta say I've never seen octo jigs outfish anything in my life - but looks like they came through with the goods!
When asked by a non-fisherman 'how many fishing rods do you really need?' the correct answer is either:
n+1 (where n is the number of fishing rods you currently own); or
n-1 (where n is the number of fishing rods which would cause your significant other to dump you.

ship your gear up
Hey Fingermark, we ship all our fishing gear up with Exmouth freight. We sent up all our gear there and back again and then used our baggage allowance to bring the fish back. It worked out to about $40 each, and it was around 200 kilos of gear. As for the Ocktas ordered a couple of boxes to take up, 70 in total and we went through almost 60.
Slugger, there were plenty of sharks unfortunately and we lost some trophy to them as well. I had a GT on the line for about 20 mins and got it to about 3m only to have them tear into it and night me off, and it was a proper stonker would have finally cracked the 20kilo mark no doubt.
Sea-Kem, we havn't had too much trouble so far finder the numbers, which is good.
thanks again boys. fingers crossed next year is as good.

Hey Camo
Thanks for that info.
Couple of quick questions if you don't mind?
What sort of depths were you mainly fishing in and what do you think is the ideal octos weight you mostly used? A couple of the pics look like they are 200-300g octos?
Any particular colour better then the others?
Also noticed a Saltiga rod in the background attached to what looked like a Saltiga 4000. Is the rod a Saltiga 62s? Reason I'm asking is I have the same outfit and curious as to how it performed up there? Was thinking the 62s might be a little on the light side but taking it regardless.
Cheers mate..
