Min Kota Auto Pilot Electric Motors

Fishwrecked Crew,

I`m thinking about using a Bow mounted Elec Motor with Auto Pilot ( stationary anchoring GPS system ) on my Quintrex WB Dory when out and about bottom bouncing. Has anybody used one of the new GPS Min Kotas in a boat my size at sea. Am i dreaming here or am I on a winner? What sort of thrust would I need to maintain position in a light breeze and current and what sort of $$ would I have to pay for one??

Appreciate your replies

high sided tinnie will need the 55HP ( :) ) it will use alot of power if the wind and current are up. they aren't cheap either.

It has a built in gps system in the unit itself. 55lb is pretty powerful on a tinny it should scoot around no worries I think they retail for around $2300 in the shops

Got the Minn Kota Terrova RT805ST 24V 80lb i-pilot Kota myself

Wouldn't ever fish without it

Get the i-pilot version, spot lock is killer and perfect for sitting over bommies .

It is available in the 12V kota.

Power is determined by weather/tide and given you dont suffer the same 9m tides here, power will last for ages. I get two days of solid use out of mine.

Get it from CH Smith Marine in Collingwood in Melb as they have the best price in Australia by far (beats Wade's price by hundreds).

Get the longest shaft as possible to compensate for swell.

Dont get the foot peddle as the remote is good.

You will need a battery and recharger.

The worst part is I'm always stuck driving the kota as the deckies are to busy smashing the fish..... ha ha

And dont forget the track recording features
