Mindarie Night Fishing expedition

A few threads ago it was suggested we organise a Fishwrecked NOR night time Dhuie assault out from Mindarie.

I personally haven't fished at night much at all from my own boat and would love to give it a go with a small flotilla of boats on the water at the same time (for safety reasons).

If anyone is interested in getting such an event organised, post your comments below and we will try and get it to happen over the next month or so (weather permitting).

My suggestion would be to meet up at mindarie ramp about 5-30pm, head out and fish the sunset for snapper on or around Staggies reef, then maybe head to some promising ground for Dhuies etc. Back at the ramp by say 10-30pm for a late evening beer or two.

I'm up for it!

Not a bad idea Andy, I was gonna do one myself soon as I also haven't done a night fish out of Mindarie/Two rocks so I'm up for it!

The only hick up is I wouldn't group up with other boats as I fish alone but happy to meet back at the ramp at a set time & beers etc

Cheers

I was just saying to my crew recently that a night fish would be good, Mindarie or Two rocks would be fine with me!

Sounds good

Sounds like a good idea. Once you have a date let me know. If you could get out on the water a bit earlier say 4pm you still have a few hours to find good ground and get set up. Just a thought.

Those pics will definately generate some interest

Tue, 2006-09-26 21:04

When you first posted those pics on FWA and here a while back I was immediately thinking about a night fish, unfortunately work, weather and a lack of deckies and like minded boaties to share the experience and feel safe has kept me from getting organised.
Ryan, I hear you with the fish alone pricipal, I was thinking along the same lines. As far as a flotila is concerned I was simply alluding to the fact that if we had multiple boats out there in the general vicinity it gives a sense of security even if we are well out of sight of each other. Some may fish in close, some out wide some North some South, I don;t know about you but I find it comforting to know that someone is out there and on the radio, just in case.
Lets see how many we get interested and then work towards a date. I know Gully expressed an interest and I'm sure Street and Tapout would be in it. Adam obviously and I'm sure a few others NOR.

Cheers

Could be keen

Tue, 2006-09-26 21:43

Sounds interesting. If any one needs a decky I'd be keen. Haven't fished that area much so wouldn't be too keen taking my own dinghy out.

Two weeks holiday starting this Friday so its all good.

John

Go before Nov 14

Wed, 2006-09-27 00:52

A tip, to go before Nov 14th...

Nuthin worse than spending all night untangling cray pot ropes from props at night! ;o)

The ropes tend to break my transducer off every time & gets exxy at $150 a time to replace! Not so bad goin out of an afternoon (bad enough tho with the afternoon setting sun glare) - but can be a B!tch commin home in the dark!

Cheers!

Sweet

Very valid point Flywest, my sentiments exactly - cray ropes and night time is a bad combo.
I am definately in, although havent done much deeper stuff off Mindarie, Two Rocks is a different story but would be keen either way.
My calender is a bit chockas at the moment but hopefully will be able to make it.

I was thinking before cray

Wed, 2006-09-27 11:09

I was thinking before cray season (common sense) and more importantly the winds are up more in November, some time in Oct was my thoughts!

Week 16th -22nd October

Wed, 2006-09-27 11:51

How about we pick this week as the target date (Tapout will be back from Phuket) and we simply select the best weather day out of that week and commit to it a few days in advance.

Naturally nothing to stop anyone going out earlier than that but at least it is a start.

Cheers

Weekend preferable to weekdays

Wed, 2006-09-27 12:44

Just spoke with Adam and we thought it may be best aimed for a weekend rather than a weekday as not everyone runs their own business and can have the luxury of a sleep in when they want to.

So we will prioritise the weekend of Friday 20th to Saturday 21st and look at the following weekend too if the winds are too strong for a safe night fish.

Please post your comments yay or nay.

Cheers

Andy is that a Black Day on

Wed, 2006-09-27 15:05

Andy is that a Black Day on the Almanac (i.e around full or new moon, rather than mid month?) The longer you leave it - the more those currently inshore spawning dhui's etc will be moving out deeper!
Used to get Dhui's while diving in behind Lancelin Island in August when I was much younger than today!

Cheers!
