GPRX How to keep GPS Spots Secret?

http://www.asiagis.com.sg/agis2/agis_about_us.asp

We are about to get a new technology rollout in the next 3 months or so that MAY make keeping your GPS waypoints a secret from fishing buddies quite difficult!

Quote:
GprX™, world’s 1st Zero Hardware, Zero Cost location technology.

Thats right - your mobile phone will be trackable - and all it needs is a once off software upgrade!!

Even someone onshore could note down the positions where your mates mobile phone stops still for any length of time - while he has it in his pocket!

There goes all your waypoints!

Not only that - the person can navigate back to those same spots without a gps - just using their mobile phone!

Scarey technology people!

Your boss will be able to see where you are by your mobile phones location...

Course it can have it's good uses too - like keeping a track of your kids (or your missus if she's bangin her boss in work hours!)

Hide a mobile phone in your car and you can track it, if it's stolen! ;o)

Theres a zillion & one uses people haven't even dreamed of yet!

Probably 3 months away - zero hardware & zero cost (after the initial software upgrade for $29) - it will be the next big thing in mobiles...and a lot of the manufacturers are signing MOU's with the company to include it standard into new phones, new sim cards etc etc...

So how do you know - if the guy with you - has a phone thats pinching all your GPS marks???

What about charter boats? Will you be able to take mobile phones 0n Charter boats after this????

Lots of implications here people - just a heads up hey! ;o)

Cheers!

id imagine you could turn it

id imagine you could turn it off, surely it would be an invasion of privacy to leave it on all day everyday. It would be a great tool for stalkers.

So in that case, dont get it installed on your phone, turn off your phone or turn the feature off on your phone. Simple!

Indeed

Indeed Shizz,, there will be a privacy feature for SOME phones...

For example... if yoiur using it to monitopr your kids whereabouts - you might have programmed it with a electronic fence cordon - so that if the kids head to say Northbridge it will ring you. Because your the Phone bill payer / owner, you have the privelege to decide if the privacy feature is enabled on your phone!

Same with your boss, if he gives you a car laptop and phone and says go sell widgets - then the phone is his and he determines whether Privacy feature can be activated or not..

So - those of us who pay our own way will be able to determine if we want to be visible on the network and when we do - however, take for example the charter boat skipper - does he have to inspect every clients phone before departure to ensure that everyones phone's visibility on the network is set to "off", to protect his waypoints, multiple times during the day?

From a safety viewpoint, is it desireable to have everyones phone visibility on the network set to "off" = for examplle it might be handy in the caseof an emergency of at least someones last known whereabouts were ascertainable for search & rescue authorities.

The thing is we are getting the technology - it's just a few questions about what the implications for all of us might be is all!

Cheers!

Id say its quite reasonable to ask clients to keep there phones off during the day, unless its needed to be on for an emergency.
