Hey guys,
Had a mate take me out on my boat out back of 3 mile reef for a troll and hopefully some tuna and macks. No macks to speak of but manged to pull up my first stripey and bluefin tuna.
Went back yesterday and managed to pull up another good BFT. Awesome fun. Will keep trying for macks though ;)

Thats some solid tuna there,
Thats some solid tuna there, must have been great fun. Especially that stripey, damn they go hard. Would drag any other tuna backwards. Imagine if they got to 20kg+ in out waters though :o
(they're longtails btw ;) Look pretty solid though)

very nice mate.
best of luck with chasing the metro macks this year.
they got the better of me once again (tho prob should have put a lot more time into the chase)
If I spent half as long fishing , as I do reading this bloody forum , I'd be twice the fisherman I am.

No we were running latish we did almost 100NMLs and caught some nice bottom fish so sadly no time to troll, but will be back maybe tomorow if I can get a deckie to give me a hand.
Bit hard to troll on my own in the big tub.

I agree the first one is a longy, but im pretty sure the second is a SBT, you can even see the little lighter lines which the SBT get and its too fat and stocky for a longtail

It certainly is a very solid
It certainly is a very solid tuna, but is a longtail. The body girth is around the first dorsal (extends to second on SBT), the second dorsal and anal fins are too long (and matches first pic) and the belly pattern is definitely a longtail (makes it super quick to pick). The SBTs mostly have vertical lines if they're visible: http://fishwrecked.com/image/tuna-14

Bugger
I was out there Wednesday. Saw a few bait balls and if I had of known there were still tuna around, I would of put some time in to them. On the good side, heaps of 35-40cm Pinkies around, so the next few years look good.
