Missing boat

Had a phone call from Shark Bay police informing us/Carnarvon Sea Rescue to be on the look out for a 21foot Southwind Centre console that broke its moorings on new years eve and hasn't been seen since.

With a bit of luck someone may spot it but it seems someone's xmas present could't wait for the wind to drop and went fishing on its own.
You can feel for the owner when he came down to inspect it and found it gone

A UB or one of the other

A UB or one of the other models? Sounds like rough luck if it was an accident.

sure it broke it's mooring

or has a light fingered person taken it?

Either way, it would have been a very hollowing feeling for the owner. And I think if it's a c/c, then its a UB (banana boat).

Thats what I thought ...

Thats what I thought ... x2.

1) yes, light fingered people

2) but no, someone told me that some of the more conventional southwinds were either released, or hacked into, CCs. So not only the UBs were CCs.

Missing Boat!

Tue, 2010-01-05 10:57

Its the Shark Bay Ocean Park's banana boat.

Spoke to a mate yesterday that works there and they have looked everywhere for it with nil result.

It has been reported to the cops

With the amount of boat traffic

Tue, 2010-01-05 11:11

up there and nobody has seen a rogue boat floating around without people on it sounds very suspect.....

I agree with you huggy.

I agree with you huggy. Being christmass there would be a large number of boats out and for not one of them to see or report it seems a little strange... unless no ones got close enough to notice that it has no passengers. But with people searching you would think theyd find it

If its the shark bay ocean

Tue, 2010-01-05 16:36

If its the shark bay ocean park it could be the one i sold them. Years ago when they first set up. That one though wasn;t a cc it was actually a tiller steer with a 75 hp outboard in it. I'm guessing it would have been in the late 90's..?

Warnings

Tue, 2010-01-05 20:37

All we can do is put out radio warnings in the hope that someone spots it.Where there is no persons on board we will not go searching for it especially in the crappy weather we've been having

Hate to say this but

Tue, 2010-01-05 21:18

i reckon some b----ds have taken it & pulled the bung out off shore for a laugh! I mean how can everyone miss seeing it unless it was loaded onto a 18wheeler in the night & taken down south?

Town

Tue, 2010-01-05 21:27

Its a very small town someone would have noticed, only one road in to town and something like 150km to Billabong roadhouse then 300km either north to Carnarvon or south to Northampton, then comes the bit about providing a trailer to put it on?

Found

Mon, 2010-03-01 12:06

The boat or whats left of it has been found.About 5 weeks back we[Carnarvon Sea Rescue]got a call that it was on the rocks about 2nm south of Red Clff bay on Bernier island and had major damage.
Two weeks back while on a run over to the gap between the island to take a look for an overdue/no sign off vessel we had a better look.It was about 40 feet from the water and had large holes in its hull, the outboard was still on minus its cover and looked like it was beyond repair.

Now its been logged in if we get a call stating a boat aground in that location we can say that its all clear.
