Missing rod and reel

Went for a fish Thursday night north of cottesloe set my spheros 8000 and 12ft ozflex into the sand with sand spike with half a gardie in a nice gutter backed the drag off and started bait casting with a smaller combo I swear I left it out of my site for 1 minute I turn around and it's gone I'll never trust a sand spike again

Must be gutted

I've always used a long length of PVC pipe push well and truly in to the sand. Always a bit tricky on how much drag to set.

Ouch mate, I feel your pain.

I now use a 1.5M PVC pipe 50mm end cut at 45 degrees, bashed in with a hefty rubber mallet. I started doing this after i watched my rod and reel dragging down the beach with something huge on the end of it.

Dove into the surf and saved it. Got bitten off as i went to set the hooks. Spent a week cleaning out reel swearing.

Cheers,

D80

Tubes

Mon, 2014-02-10 09:36

I have shortish pvc tubes with picket stakes bolted on, rock solid on the beach and very good on the rocks as they fit into tight crags nicely. Back the drag off and I've had loads of big runs, full bends in the rod without the tubes moving. I have though had loose line wrap on a ring and around the reel when windy, which has been bloody hairy and caused the rod to be pulled over before.

Fishing in Collie river same go as you and the next week i hooked it and pulled it back out  Well it looked like it had been in the water for a year not a week. I took it to his place to show him he wasn't happy. I now use a hammer on my rodholders.
