Rekon the daiwa aird is a good low price reel that's light, plus two spools , or for cheaper but work horse I've heard nothing bad about the shimano sienna.

for a rod I couldn't say, haven't looked into such things for a while, a mate uses the FWA rod and a sienna atm for trigg tailor and it goes fine, cannot fault it that rod! Can launch metal a long way ( when he reads this he'll laugh)

I run a 9ft Wilson wasp, love the length. For that reason IDE say 9 ft but I know blokes that use 7ft , ideally you want good cast distance and some height above the swell when it's up, 9--7ft graphite rods the way to go, look for a fast action rod with a longer handle section to really launch ya lures out, all comes down to preference mate, some people like the stiffness in rod others like a bit of whipy tip, just have a feel. good luck mate a lot of people will have their opinions on here but I run a 9ft Wilson wasp graphite rod that's got some whip to it, 15lb Fwa extreme braid ( I'm not a fan of this stuff), a 8000 shimano spheros reel, I like a bit of weight it my set up, to balanced it all out, can launch a metal a very very long way.

Every ones dif

There's a Shimano Catana 902

Fri, 2014-02-07 07:30

There's a Shimano Catana 902 combo that I've seen go on sale for ~$110 at places like Ray's.  Comes with a 4000 size reel that's a step or two up from the Sienna.  Maybe worth checking out.

Tight budget?

Fri, 2014-02-07 09:46

If you arent in a hurry, sit on the classifieds section of this forum. You will find some decent priced stuff.

Eg this is a start: http://fishwrecked.com/forum/shimano-nexave-902

or the 8footer here: http://fishwrecked.com/forum/high-end-gear-sale-0

Or something like this? http://www.motackle.com.au/fishing/rod-and-reel-combos/daiwa-triforce-combo-line.html

Thanks guys, I'll keep

Fri, 2014-02-07 13:42

Thanks guys, I'll keep looking of the classifieds section for rods, I rekon second hand rod will be alright ?

For reels I prefer to go new, and need some info, what are the factors to concider for a good reel, weight, number of BB ????

The Daiwa Aird looks good 6.2:1, 43.3′ line per handle turn and 13.2 drag

Or the Daiwa Crossfire 4000x combo http://www.motackle.com.au/fishing/rod-and-reel-combos/daiwa-triforce-combo-line.html, which has 5 BB and 5.2:1, I couldnt find much more about it.

how big a difference will it make, option one is $99 for the reel and option two is $69 for the combo !

Cheers

 Well one big thing is

Fri, 2014-02-07 16:51

Well one big thing is balance between the chosen rod an reel, if you go a combo that shouldn't  be a problem ,also line per crank you don't wanna have to be flat out to keep ya lure off the reel or at high speed , good  drag crucial, some good reels only have 4-5bbs mate Iv read placs that more bearings than needed are just more things to attract salt n sand ( correct me if I'm wrong there ). The other things are like extra spool, line lay (if your using expensive braid u want to have limited chance of tangle or twist) , water proofing, amount of drag pressure you can call on, comfortable handle, then price above all that!

Shit mate list goes on, it took me ages to find a reel to suit the weight to balance my rod, I like the look of the quantum inshore smoke, exos are nice also, but too light for me,

i suggest getting a rod first then taking it in with you

I hope it helped mate I just went through the reel selection myself and so many choices out there, remember everyone's different tho, what may be ideal for some isn't always the best for others

Hey Ali I remember u fishing

Fri, 2014-02-07 22:32

Hey Ali I remember u fishing for tailor at Yanchep and ur mate caught one that day. I too reckon that the daiwa aird combo is perfect for the trigg area. I use a shimano catana 9ft matched with a shimano solstice 4000. I got that combo for $99 at bcf, trust me its never let me down, also 15-20lb braid will be fine for trigg. Just a word of warning, get down early to reserve ur spot as it can get really crowded at times. The combo I mentioned is perfect for casting poppers and stickbaits, u can easily cast a small richter plug passed the breakers with it. Good luck

Go 15 lb line maximum 12 lb is better don't worry about reef and what not that's what leader is for I use 60lb leader with about 6 inches of light wire you should see the places I fish havnt managed to cut the braid on the reef get and that's catching some big fish too

12 lb make catching tailor great fun

 Thanx everyone for the

Sat, 2014-02-08 17:28

Thanx everyone for the comments, I ended up getting a combo from bluewaters mindarie, nice people !

I got the Daiwa Revros MX4000 on a Daiwa Air Edge 8ft, it costs me 190 buks. I was planing to get a rod for $90 and get the Daiwa Aird online for 89+HS which would have cost me the same, so I reckon it was a good deal, the best part is I will go out tomorrow morning and dont have to wait another week !!!! And also supporting local business

I'm gonna take your word Aaron and head out as early as I can, wish me luck guys !!!
