mitsubishi pajero 2000 v6 auto, 4WD PROBLEMS

Hi Guys.
Ive got a mitsubishi pajero 2000 v6 auto, and im have problems getting it into 4wd.
Ive tryed all ways possible, and just cant get into 4wd??? This means no beach fishing.
Can anyone help
