safe
hey mate done it a couple of times, pretty safe.
We chain up tyres and lock trailer to car just in case. But lots of people do it and leave them there for weeks.

I work at Cape Preston
It really is in the lap of the gods, its remote and theres nothing to stop someone doing what ever they like but it sounds pretty rare.
Locking up the trailer will keep the honest people and opportunists from taking your shit but anyone with a plan and some battery tools could do whatever they like there.
You could probably take the trailer back and drop it in the carpark at the security gate so only your car is there, I doubt the security people would care.

I know a few people that used to do that but they closed the little short cut between the mine access road and the river road so now you would have to drive all the way to the highway and back down.

The one from the security but
The one from the security hut I’m pretty sure they did. People were towing boats down down citics bitumen and cutting back at the boom gates so the dirt towing was minimised.

In about 5 days I'll pass right by there, I'll see if it physically is or not?
I can chase it up or provide a contact if someone wants to contact them as a member of the public?

Im at sea on tugs though so we only set foot on the land side to fly in fly out
Are you talking about the Fortescue camp?
As Ive never been to that, if ever we stay in camp its at Erramulla which is other side of the highway.
At Erramulla there is a carpark right outside the gate which has about 30 or more cars in it, some abandoned by the look.
Not sure if Fortescue is the same.

Last time I was there some of the cars looked derelict with broken windows

it was open when I was there late May.
We used the mine access road to get in and out, just made sure we were doing it during a quiet period. Quiet periods are outside of an hour to hour and a half either side of shift changes which are 0600/1800. Going in, 1530, I saw 2 or 3 vehicles, all ESS, going out 1400, I saw one. My mate following, on the other hand, who really should have known better, arrived right on 1800, and had to wait to turn right to get across the road with a steady stream of vehicles coming out.
it's pretty accepted, as far as I can work out, to just leave your stuff at the ramp.

There are a couple of issues
There are a couple of issues with bigger boats. The ramp is a cut away in the bank and is quite steep. It’s perfectly hard but that will be a lot of weight to drag up gravel.
Because the trailer is so long and the ramp so steep the back of your boat will be floating well off the trailer. Can be a bit awkward. Seen bows touching winch posts and my bow rail is very close to the ladder rack on my ute.

Mate in all honesty when we
Mate in all honesty when we were there 2 months back and seen the ramp for the first time after hearing all about it being really steep, IMO its not really that steep at all and ive seen worse on other remote trips, If you had 2 capable vehicles you could put pretty much anything up it. its plenty deep where you launch with the only worries being the mouth at a lower tide. Cant say about launching on a low as we didnt, But you could definatly wait an hour or so and have no dramas.
As above we approched the oldies camping and parked out cars and trailers over with them for the week they were cool as.
