Montes advice
Submitted by Jody on Tue, 2010-08-24 06:13
I'm pretty keen to get to the Montes within the next 12 months. I've had a prowl around the archives, and heard medium to poor comments about some of the fishing charters up there.
So I'm wondering if anyone has a good one to recommend.
Time of year is another issue. Is there a window of a couple of months like further south??

dont know about charters
dont know about charters Jody, hopefully some one else might be able to speak from experience
but the period around april / may is traditionally the best weather we experience. Still warm and a change in the wind pattern.
Sensational...

Definitely Monte Bello
Definitely Monte Bello Island Safaris! Me n my old man went out with them 2 yrs ago, and had an absolutely awesome time! Caught our limit of fillets, and the operation was very professional! Couldnt recommend them highly enough!

I think i would lean more
I think i would lean more towards the period from april onwards
before there is still a likley chance of a cyclone
depending on what you want to do fishing wise, if your just after fillets then i suppose it dosnt really matter who you go with.
however i know some of the boats are starting to throw in a lot more sportfishing options which makes the trip a little different to the regular "freezer filling" trips
more jigging, popping and soft plastic stalking on the flats etc rather than the traditional 8oz snapper lead and paternosta rig
but each to there own, i do reccomend if you are going to make the effort to go there you choose someone that can give you the opportunity the experience the single best thing about the montes, its diversity...

Blue Lightning has always
Blue Lightning has always come back with great reports, definitely worth looking them up.
Plus they have a smaller boats for running around in the shallower areas.

Been with Monte Bello Island
Been with Monte Bello Island Safaris a couple of times and they run a good set up I reckon. House boat permanently moored over there in season and you stay aboard that and fish off there 57 footer and other smaller boats. Awsum spot thats for sure! Cheers

Top Gun 2
Top Gun 2 has just left Carnarvon to work the Monte Bellos for the next 4 months or so. They are based in Dampier and do 6-7 day trips. The skipper,Aldo has fished the area over many years and knows where and when to get top results. The vessel is a 75 foot Westcoaster with accomodation for 12 anglers..
The number to contact them is 0417911028. They have pick ups and drop off at the airport and will fillet you catch.

Where's the pics C Mac?
Saw Top Gun 2 out there working last year, pretty loyal to the boys on Blue Lightning now, did a sensational job last year.
Tip is to try not to book the boat out, much more fun with a handful of folks rather than a boat full.
Hook'em......

Mahi Mahi II
Hi Jody,
Bernie is the man if you want to get into some Marlin on the way there and back. He isn't one of the IGFA top marlin tagging skippers in the southern hemisphere for nothing. Certainly knows his stuff.
You can check out the pics from my trip with them here
No matter who you go with you will have a ball virtually guaranteed.
Cheers
