No wonder it's been a bit of a lean season on crabs. The poor buggers have got no chance of getting to a decent legal size with all this rape and pillaging going on with the juvenile stocks.
The local crab fishery has just been awarded an internationally accredited award for being a sustainable fishery, which in short means the pros and the amateurs are doing the right thing. With this sort of bastardy being carried out it's a wonder the people who make these awards could find a bloody crab to look at.
The last lot of human waste that appeared before the courts got a good old fashioned tongue lashing from the beak in the Rockingham court (and good on her).
The newspapers are giving very good coverage of this type of offence and yet there are still a lot of people coming up before the courts for taking undersize crabs.
DoF are doing a great job by putting up signage everywhere you look tell people the size and bag limits.
I think it is time to really bang a seriously big fine on the next lot of thieving juvenile crab catchers and not give them any time to pay the fine.
Pay the fine right now or loose your drivers licence and have your car impounded until you do, or do time inside in the Broome jail. Why Broome it's the furthest one from Perth that I know of so no visitors.
An angry old man who has had enough of this bastardy being carried out under the excuse of "I didn't know there was a size limit"
Makes you fecking sick to the stomach. Should have confiscated the car as well and if here on some kind of visa had it cancelled and sent packing back home to tell all his mates what happens when you come to Australia and poach our marine life.
Bit of a lean season on the crabs! I normally go out 3 to 4 times a year only and have never really had a problem getting my quota which consists of only the blues. Last summer I struggled to get 10 sized crabs. With more and more pressure on the Peel/Harvey inlet, crab numbers will always be under pressure and I wouldn't be surprised if the bag gets reduced yet again. I think the problem with our "English Language Challenged" friends is that where they originate from, it is in their culture to take everything. Their "me no understand" response for the most, is only an excuse.
I think if the message could be brought home from school that if everybody takes their limit or enough for a feed (you don't need 10 crabs for a feed for 2) of sized crabs there will be enough for everyone to enjoy the experience.
The young generation of new Australian have to be given the education of what is acceptable in Australia and what is not, and pass it on to their parents. Unfortunately DoF can't be every where and the education process is one tool to be used starting from a young age.
Fining the crap out of the generation who know better but think they can get away with taking undersize and more than the limit allowed is another.
Carrot and big stick approach has a lot going for it.
But where were you despite my call to Fishwatch.
Some "not Caucasian" women with Caucasian male fishing the Cut catching heaps of well undersize Tarwhine (one looked like a undersize pinky from a distance). AND she knew she was doing wrong because of the sly glances around as she dispatched them to the bucket.
I was spewing. Could have walked over but thought the wiser as the other half was a BIG boy, well on the Grog!!
you would have to guess these offenders knew better
wouldnt it be nice to do the same to some of the following offences ??increase the penaltys much higher
imagine if using your mobile to sms or call while driving was upped to $2500, confiscation of the phone and no ability to buy have aphone for 12 months
hoon driving saw your car automatically confiscated ? + $5000 fine and no right to buy or licence a car for say 5 years
drink driving was automatic ban on licence and no right to buy or licence a car for say 5 years, + $5000 fine
coward punch was 12 months gaol automatically + $10000 fine ,
out of control street partys $10000 fine or 12 months gaol
Great work by fisheries, tis a hot spot and im sure there set up for these scum now...would be great to see more resources but this is hard I know, I always wounder how many are getting away with it.
I made a friendly call to fish watch last Thursday night after exiting the river from a prawn dive down Mosman bay, the jetty there was loaded with non English speaking aussies....crab nets getting thrown left right and centre.
My last few dives in the river have been interesting...cold yes..but the number of crabs witnessed has been in plague proportions, never have I seen so many in all my years diving the river, I mean the floor is covered...every few meters, almost all undersize and predominately female which is a good sign providing there not raped and pillaged before making more.

As has already been said, they should be fined a hell of a lot more.

Fisheries signs are in multiple languages
The "me no understand" crap is just that crap.
