MPPT Solar Controller
Submitted by Jackfrost80 on Tue, 2022-11-29 12:27
I bought a solar blanket for topping up the boat batteries on holidays etc but am going to ditch the cheap controller it came with. Can anyone recommend a 10a controller that isn't going to break the bank that I can reliably leave hooked up for a few days without cooking my batteries? Are the Jaycar Powertech ones any good as I've got a voucher for them...

I've always used the Victron
I've always used the Victron smart solar MPPT's, good price and haven't ever had one fail. Can also connect with app and monitor charging.

I run Victron in the van and it's awesome stuff.
As a cheaper option I've had renogy with no issues. Reliable and easy to use.
Does anyone know where the love of god goes, when the waves turn the minutes to hours?

I had a Jaycar Powertech one
I had a Jaycar Powertech one in our caravan and worked fine. Also had one running the lithium battery in the Ute while I set up a more permanent fixture.
I think the Powertech brand is fine.

+ 1 for Victron
Mighty fine units. So good that I ordered another 30 amp one for charging the deep cycle battery for the fridge on the big duck this morning.

Cheers guys. Found a Projecta one on marketplace for $10. If it was a permanent solar panel I'd go the Victron but bit pricey for something to occasionally top up my batteries

I've got a $25 solar
I've got a $25 solar projects 10amp (Pilbara rates) and it sits on my truck trailer rain hail and shine and works fine. Been on there for six months now and the screen plastic/glass has gone and still working good.
