repairing an old reel seat
Submitted by Faulkner Family on Wed, 2022-11-30 14:56
After fishing with an old friend since I was in my teens travelling all over from Albany all the way up the coast to hedland. Like me it's falling apart. I have replaced runners and re varnished it a few times over the years but sadly the reel seat has come adrift. Without stripping the butt down as I don't think I could get the same cork grips. is there a way to secure the seat properly. Was thinking something like liquid nails squeezed down the gap between the seat and the rod. The rod has to be 60 plus years old and I would hate to retire it yet. Any advice on how to go about it.

maybe 2 part epoxy rather
maybe 2 part epoxy rather than liquid nails
if u heat the epoxy up ( i put it in hot water )
it will get really thin and flowing
u can also mix it , apply then hit it with the heat gun to make it "runnier"

Locktite
Locktite easy repair, did one of my old beach rods last week. Had enough gap at the top of the reel seat to allow access to force the glue in and continually twisted it around to get the glue to go all the way down and around, lined it up with the runners and let it set. Almost like new now

Sounds good John but the gap
Sounds good John but the gap I have is about 3mm all the way around so would take a lot of locktite
