Mulies Vs "Indos"

I bought a 2kg pack of Indos today at the TackleShack. Mainly because they cost $4.50 as opposed to Mulies at $10.00. When I got home and repacked for serveral trips rather than wasting them they looked very fresh and very much like Mulies. So, what is the difference????

I don't know about the species or anything.

But from my limited experience, the Indos are cheaper(obviously), but also somewhat 'tougher' on the hook, and last longer as far as freezing, thawing, then freezing again.

 just my opinion.

Nice to see someone concentrating LOL.

Thank you. Oh, BTW, re-freezing is not on my list of things to do unless I get home pissed and forget to unpack. That's why I buy fesh as I can, break up the pack and make the most out of it. I may sound tight but I am LOL (PING).

I always have a bucket of salted mulies in the shed for floating down out wide , have used the indo's and they salt well and probably salt down better than the mulies . So if you can get the indo's try salting them and probably work out cheaper again cause they require no freezing so no loss of bait and seem to hold the oil content in

indo's are a bit more scalier too where as the locals have more of a smoother skin, both work well though

As burley they are fine, but i've been fishing many times with guys who are using indos and i'm using fresh local mulies and I outfish 10 to 1.

They mightn't be as tough but thats where good hook selection and bait prep comes into play.Plus indos are sometimes months(if not years!) old, the local ones are caught with in the last month or two if you know where to get em. Just my 2.2cents, but i think having used the two, local gets my vote. And your supporting our local economy :)

But i suppose one thing to keep in mind, the Indos are probably caught in australian waters anyway :p

I buy the Indos all the time from the Tackle Shack

They catch plenty of fish, stay on the hook well and the blocks are great to break up. I usually break a block up and pack individual mulies into chinese food containers (as suggested by Neander). This keeps the mulies frozen longer when you are out fishing and also means that you don't waste a lot of mulies if you don't need to take a whole block.

Let's hope the Tackle Shack can keep up the supply then because I am not that happy paying 10 bucks a block. Shit! the bluebait is 8 bucks a bag. I am starting to use plastics and whiting for my trips. I can't afford beer at the bait rates!!!!

I think they are 1/2 kilo bags. Not that sure. There are quite a few in there and I have made up into 3 separate packs to get best value out of them. I guess when you put that in perspective the cost is not really that prohibitive.

I use local WA mulies up here and find they outfish the indo ones easily.  The indo ones are packaged perfectly and look good, but dont seem to catch the same amount of fish as the more expensive ones.

Never heard of Indos before but if they don't catch as many fish you are wasteing your money.

Funny about Whiting,,it gets caught here goes, to Indo on containers frozen, gets thawed out and filleted refrozen back to Australia on containers and sold as Australia whiting in the fish markets,,,labours that cheap over there its worth doing.

I still reckon they should have let the blowies clean up that whale at Hillarys. It might have kept them busy for awhile.

Actually, it was interesting as there were no blowies when I fished at Hillarys on Saturday. But that might have been a result of the really strong currents flooding in and out of the harbour.
