Mullet

Does anyone have any ideas onhow to catch mullet on a rod/reel.I caught 1 a few years ago on a bloodworm but i think it was a fluke...

i've been seeing some stonkers in the river lately and i reckon some of them would nudge 2kg, i'm sure they would be great fun on light tackle! i've heard of people catching them on corn/cabbage and even cheese but just wondering if anyone else has had any successful stories??

I went out in the swan about 2 weeks ago and seen a lot of mullet jumping around, we were fishing on the kayaks and between spots we would troll hardbodies, winding it in and it wasnt even fighting just pure weight, not sure how long it was hooked for it was about 30cm.

I see heaps of mullet around that size chasing bait fish, about 1m from shore, a throwing net could get you heaps, only ever hooked 2 so far.

i find a dough mixture more consistent for the river mullet. hit a good patch at salter point once, managed one that would have tipped 4kg easy

Bakers dough

As Leemo says, bakers dough is the way to go. Roll it in to a small ball around your hook.

size 8 baitchaser rig, small squid strip and slow retrieve, works very well.
