Scaly or Blue Mackerel??

Hi Guys, just wondering if anyone knows the specific differences between blue mackerel and slimy mackerel. Have caught plenty around freo wharf and moles lately and had much heated discussions with many other fisho's to the exact species being caught. I thought blue mackerel were bigger and had a blue/silver sheen to their backs while slimies have black, green and sometimes yellow marks on thier backs and sides?? I think we have been getting slimies as they are have black patterns on their back and green/yellow on their flanks, could someone confirm or disprove this theory???

they are definatley a different species, generally you get blue mackerel out deeper around FFB and the likes. They grow to 2kg and are more like a small bonito
Scalies are the more common thing you will get around harbours and jettys, they are smaller and more like a mulie, although slightly tougher when using as bait
Then you also have Yellowtail, the best live bait in my opinion, they are the silvery-yellow fish with small tail scoots. Yellowtail and scalies are the most common thing you will catch around rockwalls and harbours

Hmm your title asks scaly or blue mackeral then you ask is a blue mackeral the same as a slimy??
I've always seen blue and slimy mackeral to be the same but scaly mackeral are totally different, and similar to a mulie just with larger scales

Used to have a ball on Slimeys at north mole with dad as a kid. Gee they go hard on light tackle, great surprise when just fishing for herring until they go mental!
