Make sure your hooks are

Make sure your hooks are large and well exposed from your baits ..or you will not hook up regularly. Mulloway do not chew the baits, they swallow it whole.

When they run, I usually give them a good 2+ meters of completely slack line off the reel before I strike. When I was chasing my first one I read this theory a few times and seems to work for me.

My old man taught me that mulloway pick the bait up in their lips and carry the bait first and can drop it a number of times before swallowing thus the previous comment about leaving slack.

He said you dont strike until you are sure hes guts'd it.

Any tautness of the line can spook em.

Just let them run

Just let them run and slowly put more pressure on the drag. Their very pickey and sometimes very smart. Sharp hooks always work.

And remember, they swallow the bait head first.

with the above advice but personally I would give up on livies. I've they fumble around with them and spit them out far too often.

I've had ALOT more success with fresh soft dead baits especially squid and salmon/Tailor fillets

Haven't landed a legal mulloway yet, but I've tried livies and dead baits and what I know for sure is that the rays can get bloody annoying taking your baits all the time.
