Went over to Murray last week 4 nights 5 days .( mildura) house boat.We fished pretty hard everyday and night. Both myself and walfootrot . Took our partners also.Man just a great river totally destroyed by carp. River full of yabbies and shrimp also. Still had a ball ,great scenery all the way. People where also fantastic and friendly. I already new carp where bad prior to going. But didn't expect such huge numbers. All went on bank ,just knocking them on head not good enough there eggs could still hatch even if dead in water.

? Nothing else
Years since I have fished it but used to get plenty of yellow belly on whole shrimp, mind you they were great on the barbecue so you were always thinking twice before using them as fresh bait

Got a silver cobbler( catfish)
Nothing else . With floods killed heap of cod and other fish. I went up river ,next time I will go down. Some locals told me for every thirty carp you catch you will get 1 yellow . Well I proved that wrong caught hundreds of carp:):)

There for it makes good sense
I see the light, it is all clear now the reason why the local councils won't allow people especially the young kids to catch the carp in the local ponds/drains and eliminate them, we would rather run the risk of them spreading if these ponds/lakes get flooded. Now that makes good sense and also stops us from seeing the kids enjoying themselves.

Firmly believe we should hold fish out comps
To remove as many of these pests from ALL our waterways ......have a truck sitting at the weigh in station to take the catch to Charlie carp fertilisers so they are not completely wasted though removing them is a huge benefit in itself

Hey sunshine, I think this is a really good idea.
We can all have some fun fishing for the biggest Carp, get together on the day but also rid our systems as much as possible of the pest.
Maybe Perth one year, South West the next, Hey! I'll be in it!

heres an idear
during school holidays put a bounty of 50 cents on each and every horrible carp kids under 16 can catch from our lakes they would soon be cleared out , and then turn them into garden manure

Yep won't work
Ranger tried fineing one of my kids very recently. Fishing lake near me . ( practicing fly fishing). It's not allowed if they get in our dams and lakes and rivers screwed . As Luke George put up lower Harvey . Be millions soon out of control . Did hear rumour not so long ago 1 was caught in lougue brook dam( don't know what dam called now days). Very close to lower Harvey . All it takes is bird to carry one all over. And yet councils don't allow them to be killed. ?? Got me .

I have heard that the CSIRO
I have heard that the CSIRO has been studying and testing a Herpes virus which it would like to release into the Murray River and other infested waterways to kill the carp.
They claim it only effects the carp and has "no risk" to any other species including humans.
Personally, I don't think that would be a good idea. I am not a scientist or anything but this kind of control method is fraught with danger in my opinion.
My fishing spots are so secret........... even the fish don't know where they are !!

It makes sense to us a biological method to get rid of pests
But, you really do have to get it right or you can cause huge damage to the system. We all see the damage done by introducing toads to eat moths in the cane fields.
They would really want to make sure that this strain of herpes is not catchable by humans, because if I went for a swim in a river to cool off and came home with a dose of the clap, some ones gona die.
