my boat build so far for all who are interested
building a boat 101
p.s I have never done this before and can see why now what alot of work but here we go
p.p.s im no welder either just somebody giving it a go
and a big thanks to mum and dad for use of their house and dad for all his help
first few pics laying out 2 of the 5x 9m x 2.2m sheets of ally 2x5mm 2x 4mm 1x3mm all i can say is you need good m8s you can call on to help just marking out and cutting two days and the shapes dont look like a boat trust me this plan is a 7.3 jackman hull loa 8.5 and 2.8m wide at the widest point
ok boring stuff out the way and sore knees, ears and great neigbours as cutting this stuff with a killer blade on a circular saw then using a wood plane to match up the panels makes alot of noise lets Start welding
the bottom sheet welded together
starting to weld the ribs in a bit of a job for the first time but with a litte help fron a porta power and a few welds here and there it all comes together
now all rib tacked in have to pull hull up hard all along so it touches all the way bit hard at the fort of boat where the boat curves but good old block and tackle comes in handy as well as some jacks its amazing how it starts to take shape
stringers what a pain in the a## lese two have to be straight and welded flat to the floor sheets all along keeping the hull level with a water level this nearly broke me so close to the start as i welded 3 bays down then leveled it to find it twisted to have to cut them all out again
after this had about 3 months off middle of summer and gutted.
Went to coral bay in may watching all these big boats bore past me was all the motivation i needed got back and got back into it again solved the problem and welded it out on my day off work
then comes the chines sides and foredeck call on those m8s again p.s the 5mm sheets weighed 280kg each so this was a 6 person job plus me tacking
got the sides on tacked the transom and all the support for the outboard in now its time to get it out of under the patio hmmm its bigger than i thought the car port is 2650mm damn this is 2700mm wide oh well weld some lugs on the inside and block and tackle it in to fit just got the 50mm i needed
now its out time to turn it over called a few crane guys but seemed all too hard m8s, where would you be without them forklift will do it
only can try after waiting a month and getting nowhere i was getting desperate and hey it worked well
now its over more grinding and welding the bottom
time to turn back over
time for a trailer to move this thing and finish second hand will do and will lock the boat in
once on trailer i could start the floor tanks cab and finish the transom
460l fuel damn that will hurt to fill up and still havent this is my m8 he is 6 ft tall give some idea of size of project
getting close now and hot again its getting close to summer again man this alloy gets hot time to ask for another favour i need a shed to get more hours in the day to build it mmm m8
ok after many 16-18h days working on the boat and a few months gone by, it was time for the motor an lets see if it floats
so this is where i am so far now its winter again its time for the shed again to do the finishing touches and get some paint on it ready for dive season but this is my story so far feel free to ask questions if you like but remember im no tradie just somebody giving it a go
this was my dhu date didnt quite get finished but nearly thanks for reading sorry its so long but it was a long process

cheers guys
i can say have no trade skills qualified i just dont like not understanding something so have to figure it out. had a fair bit of guidance from peter from marindi fab in bunbury and the use of his workshop which was massive as i said great m8's he even now says it was a big project to take on for a first one nothing like jumping in the deep end hey cost was cheap too cheap but hours of pain made up for it in the end but will hopefully finish for around $55000 inc new yamaha 300 and on a new trailer still to be built just deciding to go ally or gal steel. got templates of mate save big cost i think they around $5000 just for the templates

yeah maybe do it again one day but for now just enjoying using it have had it out a couple of times had a couple dhuies on it a mako and a couple of small snapper so it works. I found welding ally with the push-pull gun easier than welding steel for some reason flows awesome she sits and rides well in rough seas and hardly get wet even with no windows
sea-kem i have seen boats around this size for the 120000 -160000 factory boats though
best decision do it b4 i get married took a bit of convincing but it all worked ou in the end and im not sick of it

Cool mate
Been talking to the guys in Osborne park, they've hit a wia single Phase 270amp with remote wire feeder for about $2400. Was hoping with the remote wire feeder might get away without the push pull gun but well see how it goes :)
Also to add respect for cutting all the panels yourself too! The ones I've been eying off come pre cut by a plasma cutter which saves time and skill required :)
One day when the house Reno is finished and I finally start on the boat I'll be in touch with heaps of questions :D

It's truly amazing what someone can do with the right attitude, trade ticket or no trade ticket. Don't be surprised if you start getting orders for a couple more!

all good this end of town mate
Noble = awesome boats
Mine is only the 5.1 but she far exceeds all my expectations. Plenty of mates aggree given their words when riding in her and these blokes have plenty of boating expereince.
Wouldn't hesitate buying a bigger model if ever the situation ever warrants.
The ride is sweet and I'd say par to glass, its a very solid boat and well built (all 4mm). And I can sleep on her no worries.
First trip = 3 Barra plus others!
She's gona allow us to see plenty of the Kimberley
Def catch up when I'm in town next

Couple of things
Im sure you are already on to this but just noticed the trailer is only 2 tonne rated-it would be a tragedy to have any sort of mishap and find insurance wont cover you.
One thing if its only money, but for you its irreplaceable years of BST.
As its overwidth, cops are going to be onto you in the metro area. Ive had an overwidth rig and the fines are heavy-$400 each for no permit, no sign, flags, low beam etc each.
Transport inspectors AKA "mermaids" (c++ts with scales!) dont give warnings Im told.
You should look at building yourself an Ibeam steel or ally one-you shouldnt have any trouble with that after doing all this!
Unless of course you are dry stacking etc-then you dont have a worry in the world!
ps been back looking over this 1/2 a dozen times since you posted it-still impressed!

Martins Trailer Parts in Perth are probably best and most helpful locally, but have a look on ebay http://stores.ebay.com.au/Spinny-Things-Trailer-Parts?_trksid=p4340.l2563
this mob has loads of full kits at a pretty good price. Can get it all in one hit.
Regarding trailers, I reckon you wouldnt go far wrong copying a Trailcraft trailer (Ibeam), or Peterson if aluminium. The only difficult bit in them is bending the 2 ibeam sections. After you look close at them, any box section type looks a little dicky I reckon.

thats an awsome build mate. i've done plenty of ali fabrication and welding and that is not too shabby at all! Interested in where you got the plans and shapes/dimensions for marking it all out and was it a kit or did you have to order all your own ali??? am trying to convince the old man into letting me build him one ( doubtful, though dreams are free ), or one day doing my own.

the boat is a dave jackman design my friend bought the templates i think thegy cost nearly
$5000 for some mylar sheets but had to mask and cut out all with a circular saw i got my ali through his shop so it was cheaper if to do a different one proablt do a kit boat these kits are lazer cut out so they are mirred alot less work just matching pannels places like e.g http://www.marinekits.com/in freo and the is haep over east google it plate alloy boat kits they would be alot eaiser

Think I can speak for Dan
Think I can speak for Dan here until he replys. Dan got the plans from a mate who had already built one. Just happens his mate owns a fabrication business that specialises in Ali work. A huge job all the same, it was advantages for Dan to be able to go back and look at his mates boat to figure a lot of the problems out. On saying this, Dan figured a hell of a lot of it out himself anyway.
This was a massive undertaking and to watch it grow as I have brought rewards to me so I can only imagine how rewarding it has been to Dan. This is truley a project done by Dan that is worthy of all the praise by his fellow FW members and I know all of us who know him are very very proud of what he has done.

Having built boats in glass before
With the old man, and that was a pain I am so impressed. Probably cant say anything more than what has been said above, but You know now how it feels to ACHIEVE. Even though the boats we build was my fathers (23 ft dive machine - I think it was a Sunseeker something, a Deepwater 28 and a Farr 9.4) it still felt awesome achieving it.
And there is no better feeling than taking it out. Was our reward that if we helped, we could use it. Didnt much like the Yacht much, but overused the other 2.
Sum up. Bloody Magnificent awesome job.

Top Job
Hi Mate,
I note you are using what looks to me to be a north push pull gun? How did you wire it in? I am particualrly interested in the little circuite board I think the original feed would go to the + and - and maybe the new torch attaches to the ac SPOTS? and what the puckk are POTENTIMETER 1, 2 and 3? What do they attack to? Thats if yours was a North gun or North knock off
Regards
Chris

As a bloke with absolutely no natural talent I LOVE seeing stuff like this, The size and complexity of making sure all the fabrication side of things is on the right path is awesome. I hope she treats you well for many years to come mate. Definately deserve a pat on the back for making it happen.
