my first attempt at making poppers from dowel.
one on the left is amde from two spoons. and the one on the right is a drilled face
open to any 'constructive' critacism.

It's 2 spoons joined together - he has cut the handles off and used the end that you eat your cereal off.

here is a new prototype Callum
It uses the fabled CD face water dispersion system, custom paint job, and it even has a frickin laser beam attached to its head.
I call it "the ill tempered sea bass"

probably doesnt help that he was used a 15mm wide bit of doweling and then stuck 2 pastic spoon ends to it that are probably 50mm across (hiding the body of the lure completely) .. but nice effort anyway callum .. at least they should make a big splash for there size :)

paint brush handles
Hey callum we used to use paint brush handles for tailor on the reefs. Just cut them off put some trebles in the end. You could paint them if you really want to get flash but just buy those cheap sets (5 for five bucks) and pick what color you want.
Red is always faster.

Age setting in.......
I don't mind admitting that age is probably a factor here for me. I have no fuggin idea what this gadget resembles (if anything). As Pauline Hanson would say "please explain".
Paint brush handles....Hmmmmm ...OK..... I have a shit load of multi-coloured varieties in the shed. I didn't buy them like that, I just am a lazy bugger who doesn't clean up properly. Maybe this is an opportunity for me to make some cash so I can afford to buy some conventional poppers...........

Don't worry Callum, with a bit of practice you will get them better and better.
I have made a few rapalla type deep diving lures in my time as well as some poppers, hand carving them from scraps of wood and spending days on them, painting them up.
My mates thought I was nuts and said I was wasting my time as bought ones although more expensive would save me heaps of time and effort.
Well, I made quite a few- the first ones being really crappy until eventually I was producing lures which were catching fish- sometimes more productive than the bought ones. Trial and error is the only advice I have for you.
The bottom line is that once you catch fish on a homemade lure (and you will with a little persistence), the satisfaction factor is far greater.
