My knob fell off in Leeman!

Hi All headed up to Leeman for the long weekend, as you know the weather was perfect and the fishing didn't let us down either. As Friday was looking the goods we managed to sneak away Thursday arvo so we could get a full extra day in. Got out early and had a try first up with the jigs. With in the first couple of drops had a good hit with the fish taking off at a rate of knots. After a few minutes up came a nice cobia to our supprise. The rest of session included the usual supects some nice Dhu's and baldies.

As we were getting one of Dhus in the boat I couldn't believe it my knob fell off. Managed to finish off the session with no knob! Boated out before lunch with 3 of us on board our boat on 3 on the other boat in our crew.

Day 2 was a repeat on the bottom fish with all getting their fair share. We were just enjoying the magic conditiions when we spotted a big shark coming up from the depths with what looked a like a smaller one with it. As it got closer we realised it was another good sized cobia. My little jig rod, with the back up reel on a Saragosa 4000 was quickly dropped over the side in front of his nose by the skipper (good mate JK) and got smashed.

Second one on board for the trip. All done by lunch again.

Day 3 more quality fish and back in at 30 odd knots.

Matt with a  nice Dhu.

James aka El Gringo pretty happy with himself.

So after 3 days fishing, 2 boats, 6 guys we ended up with boat limits on the demersals plus the couple of cobia, heaps of great memories with good crew, and even though I was knobless still got a happy ending......

Question

Did your knob fall off from years of being overworked and abused?

Ease up on your knob next time and it will serve you well

hahaha

No abuse to the knob

Wed, 2014-03-05 17:34

Thanks for comments guys.
Scano trust me, the knob has never been abused....
In all seriousness I don't think there is anything that broke I actually dropped the aluminum piece overboard when the knob came off. The threads in handle and knob all good, it appears to have just unwound it's self. I'm not sure if this is because I'm jigging left handed, if anyone has had the same happen would like to know.
Cheers.

haven't had the same problem

haven't had the same problem but its just a little threaded bolt that holds the whole lot on. It is supposed to be locktited on. left hand wind will unwind the bolt. Take it back to where you bought it because there are also 2 bearings in there as well.

Thanks Cudbfishn

Yep figured it should've had some sort of locking compound on it. Will take it back and ask the question.

When asked by a non-fisherman 'how many fishing rods do you really need?' the correct answer is either:

n+1 (where n is the number of fishing rods you currently own); or

n-1 (where n is the number of fishing rods which would cause your significant other to dump you.

If you went waist deep in

Thu, 2014-03-06 01:58

If you went waist deep in the water round the boat ramps at Leeman , its no wonder your knob feel off , its that full of rotting weed it  looks , smells like pooh soup most of the time, its a wonder the sealice type things that are profuse in it left your testicles intact, will never launch there , as theres far cleaner ramps not to far away .

Hey Coity
We were going pretty wide and fishing anywhere from 42m-80m.
Worked hard and covered >150 nautical miles in 3 days.
