My new dream boat

http://www.boatsonline.com.au/boats-for-sale/used/power-boats/calyber-custom-console/90228

I saw her in the yard at Martin Box Marine on Capo D'Orlando Drive in Freo the other day, and when I googled her, I found the boatsonline link.

Very unusual boat.  Has a tuna tower but no windscreen :p. Wouldnt be fun all day traveling at 25kn in winter :p. I wonder how wet it is too (the bow looks like it would deflect a lot of spray though).  Interesting concept, but not sure how practical it would be, considering you dont even get the benefit of a walkaround/centre consol like the pic would initially suggest. The front deck looks polished fibreglass, so not easy for clammering around on. Suppose full cab boats dont have that either, but you would think if they took a few style cues from CC's, that they would allow it. Though, if you gripped the front deck and put in some bow rails, you'd have a huge front casting deck.

Apart from being more open, it seems to lack the benefits its apparent CC styling would give it. I'd rather a cab (especially if I cant climb around the front with a fish on anyways).

I was dreaming about an trip out to the monties in a glass off, but each to their own:D

Ok so after hearing some comments it may not be ideal, But I reckon the other Matt is right, grip the front deck put up some bow rails and a bit of a windscreen, or clears and a cover for the back and its on. Besides when your cold and wet you can get changed and go into the cabin to warm up.

If you're talking about the 26 Express, no way man, single helm up on the fly bridge gettin' thrown around and no getting out of the elements when your driving them either, that Calyber would be a way sweeter ride. Like you say trolling for beakies out wide in our more northern spots or popping GTs off the front deck, sleeping under the stars oooh yeah

as you can see that style of boat when using full clears is quite dry,

Many of the Baha game boats don't have a front windscreene at all and only put up clears if the weather comes in.

Yep fair enough

as you say, each to their own.

I tell you what if I was to spend $269,000 on a tub then had to stuff around getting all those extra's put on I wouldn't be impressed. Especially with etecs on the back

Would be very interesting to see how it performs on the water, certainly a different design. And your right, would be far better suited to the waters of the north than down here.

Makes you wonder who owned it in the first place?

As it is a custom job.  The total dream actually included a 90' private yacht called Platinum having Calyber as a tender:D

Platinum was at the fuelling jetty in freo fishing boat harbour on the same day as I saw the Calyber.  An extended trip in a vaguely north direction was definately on my mind.

A very similar looking one (same colour) or,.. this actual one was moored in Hillaries inner harbour penns, next to the DOME cafe, when the "boat show" was on a few weeks ago in that fenced of carpark.

It was a very striking looking boat.

From memory, has teak decks and looks like a real 50ish cassic old style Tuna sports boat!

If we gunna have a dream/w@^k session check this rig out. The outboard version would suit getting in close to the islands etc but the check out the beautiful transom the IPS or inboard one has. Love the number of rod holders in the gunnels too.

If I could sell Becs house in Margs and was allowed to sell mine in Abbey I could build on the marina here and have one of those pulled up to the jetty out the front.

tell them they dreaming ....

you can pic up a 28~32 footer in better nic and better boat for under $150k direct from the USA!

http://www.thehulltruth.com/boats-sale-wanted-17/

http://www.thehulltruth.com/archive/t-298851.html

http://www.thehulltruth.com/boats-sale-wanted/101170-32-ft-sabalo-w-315-yanmar-diesel-sale.html

US market is flooded now with cheap second hand boats!!!!

http://www.boats.com/boats/search/boats_search.html?bcint=1&bclint=120&fromPrice=&toPrice=&man=&len=25%2C30&is=&Ntt=&pszipcode=98109&psdistance=1&slim=quick&sm=3&Ntk=boatsEN&sfm=false&luom=126&currencyid=100&bn=homepage&fromLength=25&toLength=30

in fact for $50k plus $18k to get it here and a few thousand for customs etc, you can land a 30 foot nice boat!!!

http://www.boats.com/boat-details/Century-3000-Center-Console/121015421

so why would you pay $269k for a boat you could land yourself for under $100k!!!!!

in a thirty second search I found 1,500 boats for sale in the USA, centre consul sport fishers 26~30 foot in length, 1995~2011 models. Ranging from $25k to $220k!!!

The world market for sports boats is stuffed, and watch, Challenge Marine is selling off huge amounts on auction, two other dealers are being shut down by liquidation, not one supplier is giving any boat builder here in WA credit anymore on large stock purchases.

Some builders are even selling a boat a month through the back door under cost price to just keep cash flow going.... thats in some cases as much as 30% under retail price on a dealers floor!

Tony - Adam dont take this the wrong way.

Thu, 2011-06-16 09:06

You are a total dick at times.  I walked past a boat I liked and took a picture of it because it was shiny. Again I will say it -DREAM- boat.  I am an a fulltime student working occaisionally part time.  I dont have $269,000 or even $1000 to buy a boat with.

I didnt ask for a lecture on the market economics of boat purchases or to hear that the local market is stuffed because the US went round and handed out a bunch of NINJA loans a few years back with no hope of regaining the money. So now our market is flooded with cheap boats.  Maybe if you bought local for once like you always tell the rest of us to do and spent $269,000 at Martin Box in Fremantle they might be able to stay in business and effect a knock on to other WA Business.

But no, you preach to go land another boat for $100,000 or to try to find a WA dealer on the bones of their arse and try to get them to sell me a boat below profit to stay afloat.

Brilliant.

Thu, 2011-06-16 10:36

mate it's a beaut of a boat, agree with you, but shit hell the price was steep...

than again with $20m up on tonights powerball... who knows.

And ps before you kick me, I do buy local, and have bought 90% of my stuff here too from local dealers.

Point I was making is there is a world wide slump and the times of Aussie boat builders making $200k profit a year with a welder and a few appies in Bibra Lake is over and gone.

Never ment to lecture you on it, just said they dreaming mate..... that boat came from the US market probally. AND there are dealers landing US boats here for under $60k and selling at 100% profit to the man on the street.

then again maybe our market has been dominated by expensive, over priced boats, cars, houses for too long...

go have a peak at what a new Porsche or Ford F250 or even a BMW M3 costs in the USA and at 1:1 exchange at present you wonder where the F@#% the profits going...

don't just blame the Ninja Bankers, add in the wild investors that thought a quick buck was safe and pyramids never come crashing down.....

ps Martin Box is a very wealthy man... don't loose sleep over his business mate... he wont loose sleep over your's...

the days of Australia being an island ecconomy are long gone.

( my final word )

You may remember her from the Perth Boat Show

On a side note, i believe Fury boats is building something similar to the flybridge boat, for a charter company in Exmouth. But in the 28ft range

Blackwatch CC's are awesome hulls, but its a VERY wet boat, has very low sides. Cant say I've been in a boat that would out perform a blackwatch 25cc, but I've never been in such a wet boat before either. Mind you did have 400 pony's on the back

Sarcasm0

i get your point! -iits an awesome boat! actually saw this boat up at Ningaloo about 2 yrs ago - the pictures dont do it justice - there would be  circa 20-30k in teak work alone on the boat. As to the price -its not a production boat so its like telling a guy who spent 100k building a hotrod that he could have bought a "production" SS commodore for 45k which is probably just as fast....!

Art and beauty are in the eye of the beholder and we all know what people pay for either of those!

Happy Friday - I am off Wednesday for 2 weeks of a mix of fishing and poolside phuket with the wife :-)
