I use a nitro distance spin

I use a nitro distance spin 2-4kg for squid whiting bream Skippy etc and its brilliant, and if you hook anything decent you still have a excellent chance of landing it. I have landed big salmon and rat sambos on it.

cheers

Dunno what your budget is

Dunno what your budget is but, I'd go a dedicated squid rod for the 2500 and then get a nice 1000 reel matched with a 1-3kg rod for the whiting especially if you want to get into popping for them on the flats..

This is the squid rod I have www.fishonproshop.com.au/fishonproshop/SelectProd.do with a 2500 Ci4 Stradic which weighs nothing and I can throw squid jigs and little Richter plugs for tailor a mile but you can get a different and decent one for around $150. My 6y old son just uses my 6' 2-5kg Ugly Stick with a 2500 Symetre and that is fine for squid too.

For the bread and butter species of fish, I've got the 7' 1-2kg Diawa Drunknmonkey and the 6'6 1-3kg Simano T Curve both with a 1000 Rarenium. Both very nice rods with a lot of power when required and I generally use the Diawa for throwing surface lures and working plastics and the Shimano for pitching lures into snags for bream or dropping baits down for whiting and skippy. I landed a salmon on the Diawa so it has the power to match the finese and is my favourite out of the two rods.

Ther is a lot of choice all right

budget sets the tempo I guess. I have always felt keeping the number of bearings to 4 in the reel worthwhile. More bearings is more trouble for maintenance and normally more cost.

A 2-4kg rated graphite 6ft 6inch rod or a little bigger is the go. Very important to see how the rod bends. Some rods have the runners bound off the blanks preferred bend shape, so when the rod is loaded up it may want to turn one way or another. Give any prospective purchase a little bend and see if it wants to twist. Don buy the rod which wants to twist.

I've recently bought a Crucis Aegis 7023 and it's amazing, best light rod I've ever fished with.

Have a look at the slightly longer 7823 model matched with a 1000 or 2500 size reel, at around $120 theyre amazing value for money

Have a Shimano Jewel 762 spin 1-4kg line class lure weight 3-10g

Bought this a few years ago for squidding, hardly used as I prefer hand line for squid.

From memory paid $120.00 you can have it for 50 bucks if you like.

Send me a text if you are keen. Happy to upload a photo.

Cheers
