Netting for mullet in Mandurah estuaries
Submitted by Gman66 on Fri, 2015-05-15 20:06
We are planning to have a go at netting for mullet in the estuaries down around Mandurah, have a 30 metre net and studied up the rules, all ok with that. We will be shore based and other than knowing the rules don't have a clue as to what to look out for in regards to good water to place the net. Our basic plan is to look for areas the fish may use to travel around e.g. Shallow channels etc..
If anyone has any helpful advice to help us out in getting a few Mullet e.g. Tide timing, weed v sand, edge of sandbars etc I'd be happy to hear from you.
Thanks
G

Hi Gman, I went last
Hi Gman,
I went last Wednesday for the first time in quite a while. Plenty around atm. My brother in law has been having a great season this year.
Set my net from about 3/4 m from the shore then straight out (they don't mind it shallow) Small gutters are good too. Try to keep the net reasonably free of weed whilst pulling the mullet out. They'll see the weed in the net and shy away. Sometimes this is impossible though, then I think it is time to up stumps and go home.
Good luck, it's a good way to spend a few hours.
