New boat finally!! (more pics)
Hi guys, just thought I would share a couple of pics of my new boat. she is a 2008 8.1m custom built Ali hardtop powered by a 250 yamaha 4 stroke ( 245hrs) 350l fuel tank and fitted with a Furuno 587 and tm 260, Humminbird matrix plotter, full L.E.D lighting including a forward facing L.E.D. lightbar on the roof thats like the sun, marine stereo and a Quick marine anchor winch which i fitted with 250m of 14mm rope and 10m of 8mm chain ( big thanks to Rhys at Taylor marine for the GREAT deal and Ben at fibrelite boats for the fitting of the 587 and 1kw tranny which needed a much larger ali bracket welded onto the transom, and Paul from Fremantle Trailers for giving the trailer a full workover with new axles, led lighting and full new braking system)
Anyway I had the maiden voyage last weekend with 4 mates (2 nights onboard river/rotto) not really a fishing trip just a few drinks and a good workout of my webber baby Q. So far very impressed with the ride (after 7 Ali boats its certainly a big change!) and the Furuno is top notch. Stay tuned for some blood on the decks posts as today is the first day of 2 weeks holiday!
Cheers ( as you can see I've named her after my favourite boat from deadliest catch!)

Yamaha 250 4 stroke
It certainly has some grunt , I hit 40 knots with 5 blokes and 300L of fuel onboard last weekend and surprisingly economical too compared to the verado on my last boat ( trailcraft 660 sportscab).

Looks like it will ride really well with the midships driving position, a step up from the Traily no doubt!

Ride
Yes John the distance back from the bow certainly helps and the 6mm Ali plate , at over 2 tonne ( boat only ) she's got enough weight to go through the chop rather than bang over it like all my other Ali boats . Cheers

Hi Ryan, that's a seriously decent tub, well done mate!! I've been thinking about installing a forward looking LED light bar for my boat. I believe there's flood light and spot light configuration. Which do you think is best suited for spotting cray pots, picking up moorings, nav hazards, pulling up to jetties driving boat onto trailer at night etc? cheers

Led lightbar
A mix of the two mine has elliptical beam and it is supposed to go 600m forward and 500m wide but whatever one you choose try out the mounting location and check the reflection off your bow rail mine is either too far forward on the roof or not high enough as it lights up the huge bow rail too much and I need to fix the problem to get the best out of it . the new led light bars are bloody bright though . Cheers

put a piece of cutting board plastic under the light bar
turn it on and move it forward until it shadows the rail.It may only take a few mm then sica it on a couple of blocks.Worked on the old tub.Havent mounted a bar on the new one yet.
So tell me have you got your info from years on the water or hours on the internet?

Thanks Ryan
I've been checking them out online and there's hundreds to choose from. I think the combo of forward and wide angle will be best for boating. I have a centre cab boat so will be installing it on the cab roof. I've noticed a few different types of mounting method styles. I think the long "U" bracket will allow the light to be angled up/down a lot easier then the type designed to bolt onto a bullbar. What make/model did you buy?

I've been looking at the led
I've been looking at the led bars aswell boys. I have the jabsco remote light at the moment but its hasnt got much range and is more of a spot than a spread of light. It's hard work looking for pots when you leave the marina before sun up. Let us know what make/ model/ wattage you choose. I saw one on the hardtop on a boat at Hilary's facing to the stern and we were behind him when he turned it on and it pretty much blinded us.
Mad vessel too mate. What size fuel tank u running?

Hi Ryan, We just fitted LED
Hi Ryan, We just fitted LED lights on our bout, but opposite to yours, bar at back and spotty on front.. We have the same problem with the bowrail. We are moving ours forward too and might try black strips or paint on the back of the rails right at the front like they do on 4wd bullbars.....let you know how it goes if you like.

Yeah keen on the LED light
Yeah keen on the LED light bars details as well. After doing a return trip from out the back of ROtto after dark only to find out that with the window tinting on the cab and the old style spotlight would only light up the bow rail. I thin k I need a bar like that.

Beggars
Cheers beggars but I'm not keen on blackening the back of the bow rail ill either find the right position or get a bracket made to raise it off the roof 400mm or so I'm working on the right solution ill post the results when I get it perfect . Cheers.

Launch solo at Mindarie all the time
it took a coulpe of trips to get the trailer depth right with the new boat but dailled in now.Rather launch solo there than Ocean Reef.

All rounder
Yes mate I've never launched there other than helping joffa out with his crusher but the old standby of backing the trailer very close to the jetty certainly helps control and the big mudguards on the trailer allowed me to step down off the jetty onto the guard and hook the boat up without getting wet! 8.1 m is a big boat on your own though!! Taking Joff out Saturday I've got the spots dialled in just need some of his good ju ju to rub off on the first real fishing trip !! Cheers
