New boat, what to buy

I am in the market for a new boat and am finding it hard to find anything on the market that ticks all the boxes in WA. New and used. Have been looking for close to 6 months. I had no choice but to sell my Yellowfin 7400 before I left Sydney and Sold my Stabicraft 659SC Jan this year when I found out I could be relocating to Exmouth. Bought the Yellowfin and was intending to bring it over but didnt have the time to drive so had to sell.

I need a boat in the 6-7mtr range, capable off shore and plenty of range, economical, deck space to fish up to 4, plenty of air flow to fish in Exmouth (no enclosed hard tops), easy to tow and launch by one person, preference for a cabin up front for overnight trips.. Prefer under 2T tow weight if I can but not a deal breaker.

I have considered the following boats,

Eden craft 6mtr

Coota craft 21

Surtees 610

Stabicraft 1850 Fronter

Bar crusher 670

Haines Hunter 585r,600r,650r

Prefer to stay away from an imported boat and stick with Aussie or Kiwi built.

Budget is up to $80k for the right boat although would prefer to spend around $50k for a good clean second hand boat. Cant find anything on the west so other option is to get one transported over from the East coast.

If anyone knows of something on the market or comming on the market let me know.

Cheers

Polycraft or Triumph

The poly boats are pretty good. They also give you the added advantage of being able to explore rivers etc with out worrying about damaging the hull.

nice taste in boats mate:a

Wed, 2014-11-26 09:49

nice taste in boats mate:

a mate of mine in vic has a 2007 6m edencraft with a 250 etec ~300hrs he is playing with the idea of selling. Think he wants around the $60k mark, very well looked after. probably the best riding 6m boat I've been in and flies with the 250 on the back.

Cootacraft 21 bigram is also a serious piece of kit, but I'd be surprised if you find one around sub$80k. you will likely only find these over east although I have seen one in Perth.

the new 600r's look to be a very nice boat, but from what I heard you won't get a better ride than the original Haines 600r

both of these boats will be above the 2t towing limit. they're built with a lot of glass hence the good ride.

You make it sound like

Wed, 2014-11-26 09:52

You make it sound like Exmouth has no wind haha?

I just sold my 24ft glass boat, still deciding what to get next.

A 6m ali boat is easy to launch from tantas solo and you don't really need to worry about tides and surge either with an ali boat. Bundegi can be difficult due to the serge there too. Tides also become a problem with a bigger boat.

I've still got a 5.5m C/C, Its open and I get wet but it will do the job for the time being. The enclosed cab on the last boat was almost the best thing.

All of the Glass boats you mentioned will be over 2T with any sort of load.

Thanks guys I have sent a few

Thanks guys I have sent a few PM's.

Dooma that Deisel shark cat is tad heavy for what I am chasing and a tad older then what I am after. Also prefer and outboard. Is a good buy though for the money.

I am limited to 3T towing at the moment as I have the Amarok for another 18 months before I can upgrade so really 2.5T max.

I am leaning towards a fibreglass boat only because it will be used only for offshore chasing Marlin or deep dropping. I have my 5.5 Galeforce for fishing the reefs, in close on the islands or in the gulf.

Still checking Gumtree and Boatpoint every day but if someone knows of a boat to suit let me know.

Cheers

I looks like I am keeping the

Sat, 2014-12-06 06:13

I looks like I am keeping the Amarok for the time being so looking at boats under 3T. Finding it real hard to find something suitable under that weight.

Anyone have much experience in the 2100 Kevlacat offshore. (2400 Kevlacat too heavy)  Have found one that might be ok. Still under 2.5T loaded and has big fuel tanks so plenty of range. I owned a 5.5 markham Whaler about 10 years ago and have been in a few of the bigger cats and they all seem to ride well and stable at rest. This one is powered by a pair of 90hp Optimax which I am not a fan of but if I can get it for the right money will look at a repower in a few years to 4 strokes. Any comments good or bad on these boats.

Also i know it has been done to death and have read lots of info on them but also looking at a new 600 Brumby leisurecat. I looked over one in Sydney about 12 months ago and they are a big boat for 6mtrs, plenty of deck space and a good size cabin. Just put off with all the hype on the internet over them.

Looking at a cat now for comfort and safety when travelling long distance. Will still keep the Galeforce so looking for something with a cabin and shelter.

Cheers

I ended up having to buy from sydney mate.

Mon, 2014-12-08 16:56

Exact same specs except I wanted a walkaround and finally picked up an 07 low hrs whittley.

Went down the path of the yankee boats but found all bar a cpl of brands were too wide for towing and too heavy. (Had a pissweak prado back then 2.7t limit).

I did see a few trophys though that are slim enough and light enough. Also the grady whites fit the bill too but you gotta find one.

Cost me 4k to truck it over but got it for low 40's so didnt mind that considering price of  equivalent boats here.

I know a guy that is bringing a cpl of boats in around 27th jan if you are still looking let me know ill put you in touch with him.

Good luck!

 Still looking, found a nice

Tue, 2014-12-09 10:13

Still looking, found a nice Kevlacat 2100 just having second thoughts with the twin 90 optimax on the back as it may be underpowered. They are not much lighter then the 2400 and they run 140hp.

Any thoughts from anyone been on one. Dont want to drive 12hrs to find out it is underpowered.

Cheers
