speak to seakem.   He launches there regularly!

 The ramp at.the caravan park is for van owners only not the general public last time i was up there, there is also beach access in town but its a sand ramp to get onto the beach and can be quite soft. As randall mentioned seakem is a regular up there and can offer more advice

 They've been dumping sand where the road collapsed all winter but haven't been down to have a look at the result. Doubt if they've put a road back in there. You'd be busting your gut getting a Pacemaker in or out of there on a good day anyway, very boggy beach up that end. Stick to Ledge harder beach and a lot of tractors around to help you out ;)

Yeah the reason the ramp is for owners only is the public liabillity issue. We all have to have a yearly induction and safety meeting to operate the winch. Saying that if you were staying at the park there's nothing stopping you from using the access ramp to drop your dinghy in down the beach a bit like some of the guys do there , just can't use the winch when coming in.

I might look at launching at two rocks and then leaving her on anchor for a couple of days out the front provided conditions are ok. I've got a portable mooring system that will work nicely.

I nearly lost my dinghy there Derek...

there is a road onto the beach, that's about 500m south of the caravan park. we didn't know that there was a better/flatter beach at the caravan park's ramp area. we launched no problems, but when we went to retrieve there was a small amount of wind chop, and when the winch strap in the trailer snapped, it took about 20 seconds to cop a few waves over the back of the dinghy, and shit went to shambles VERY quickly...

the dinghy (4.75m ally, so not real heavy) took waves over the back, and with a few hundred extra kilos of water, was instantly too heavy to either pull up, or push back out, and just sat there taking more and more water/waves over the back. I had a 6 tonne winch on my hilux's bulbar, and by the time I had disconnected the trailer, turned the car around (to face the boat), and get out of a small bog, the dinghy was over half full of water.

by the time I connected the cars winch to the boat, it was that full of water, it STARTED DRAGGING MY CAR TOWARDS THE WATER, rather than pull the dinghy out.

we bailed like fuck to get it to a point where the car stopped being pulled forward, and the winch was groaning like a $2 whore when the dinghy's hull finally broke suction off the sand, and started sliding up the beach.

we finally got it up the beach, and took a few minutes to catch our breaths. from when we had landed on the beach, to the time the boat was back on the trailer, was around 45 minutes, and for most of that time, I thought I wasn't going to get her back.

I'll tell you one thing, we cleaned the seabird deli out of coopers green that afternoon!

That doesn't sound like much fun Scotto! Am thinking i'll def launch at two rocks and drive up the coast - the prado will love me for it too
