Hey people,
New boat owner looking for some advice. Using point peron boat ramp looking to head to 5 fathom then beyond.
Is it straight forward heading out or are there some reefs I should be aware of ?
Any advice would be appreciated.
Cheers

Use the channel markers
Make sure you don't take the short cut from the boat ramp straight out to 5 Fathom. Lots of very shallow reef on north side of Point Peron and extends quite a way north. Reef sometimes breaks, sometimes doesn't. Go nearly all the way to the Navy bridge and then turn left and use the nav. markers otherwise you will get stuck.
Wouldn't be going too far out on your first day, however it is really fantastic conditions today.

Have a look on Navionics site
Rifici70 is spot on.
If you have a look at this link it will show the reefs that extend north of Point Peron.
Take it easy and as alway drive to the conditions.

Charts or GPS
Do yourself a favour and get some paper charts, a GPS plotter or at the very least Navionics or iSailor for your iPhone/iPad.

Free advice at Fish Eagle
I try and capture most of my outings on film and write short articles on what worked for me. I am no pro and have only being fishing the local waters for three years, but have has some relatively good success. Here are two sites you may want to visit. No comercial advantage, just sharing my experiences.

Just drift...
Just drift along the reefs at FFB and see the ground and where it actually is, mark interesting points for when the Demersal ban is over and be aware of very shallow areas, cause if the weather turns and wind comes up, it can cause waves out there and get pretty hairy.
I have paper charts for the areas if you want to run a colour copy off, as a backup - PM me if you like - I am in Rocko, and launch PP mostly too.
Cheers,
