As a kid we used to catch hundreds of the buggers. I haven't spotted one for a while though. Interesting.

Australian butterfish

Regularly fish Shark Bay / Steep Point, out of a tinnie, usely take about half a kilo of squid for the whole two week trip just for catching these little buttery's, best bait you can find for catching EVERY type of fish in that region.

I have seen and been part of groups that take a huge amount of bait, now I have come to understand the local food that the targeted fish is eating is the type of bait I should be using.

Moral to the story is, find out what the fish are eating and use that for bait.

ie: the first fish caught is cut open to find out what's in its gut and "WHELLA" thats the type of bait you shoul;d be using on that day.

Cheers

the best bait you can use

the best bait you can use IMO, the fresher the better.  Make a great live bait as well, the mackies love them
