New Member From New Zealand
Hi guys,
Just thought I would say gidday as I just joined the site the other day.
My names Josh, I am 30yrs old and from Auckland New Zealand and yep just like the rest of you I am mad keen on fishing!.
Most of my fishing these days is jig fishing targetting kingfish, snapper and also deep water specias such as Bluenose/hapuku/bass, I have been jigging (new japanese style mechanical jigging) for almost 3 years now and am absolutely hooked!. I have fished most of my life but jig fishing is definitely my prefered method. I also do a fair bit of soft plastic fishing for snapper and the odd bait and berley session every now and then.
I worked in the fishing industry here in NZ for a while and am currently a contributor to our biggest fishing magazine NZ Fishing News (not sure if you guys get it over there?) if you do keep an eye out for September issue as I have a jig fishing article being published which is going to run over 7 issues (7 months) including links to some instructional short video clips demonstrating a few things.
I also work occasionally as a deckie/fishing tutor for a friends successful charter company "Memory Makers" who are based in Whakatane and are jigging specialists who fish mainly around White Island and the surrounding sea mounts. They also provide accomodation there as well, along with hospitality second to none. If any of you guys ever want to come over to NZ to have a crack at targetting big kingfish then I will be more than happy to help you out with planning a trip - i might even come along for the ride
I joined up to basically get some info on coming across to going Sambo jigging with a few mates and the guys have been very helpful so far so thanks very much!.
anyways thats just a bit about me, i look forward to sharing helpful info and fishing trip reports with you guys in the near future.
Oh yeah, here are a couple of pics of some NZ Kingies
Cheers,
Josh

Welcome aboard Josh
Some awesome fish there. We look forward to reading of some of your NZ adventures on Fishwrecked.
I have always dreamed about going fishing in NZ and was planning to go there in September. One day it will happen hopefully.

Some very nice kingies
Some very nice kingies there. Always good seeing other people getting into fishing in different parts of the world (especially jigging). Interesting to see how the gear, preferences and techniques vary too. Would love to jig three kings or some place like that in NZ some time in my life (that and go snowboarding again, as well as catch some big trout on fly). I'm guessing you're based out of the North Island? What time of year is kingie season?

Kingie Season
Gidday mate, yep I am in the North Island (Auckland).
I am off to the Ranfurly Banks (Jurassic Park) late October on a 4 day jigging trip which I am really looking forward too. The Ranfurly's are another destination like the Kings for any visitors looking for extreme fishing territory.
Kingies can be caught all year round in NZ, but during the cooler months (May-August) you may need to travel to areas such as White Island, Three Kings, Ranfurly Banks if its trophy fish you are after. There are plenty of areas where 20+ kg kings can be caught within an hour or two's drive from Auckland through Winter though.
The best time of year for them though would be from Oct-March I reckon but it can vary depending on the area.
Cheers,
Josh

Can help
Thanks mate,
If you are keen to come over for a shot at some reef donkeys at White Island let me know mate I can point you in the right direction depending on what you want to do, budget, preferences etc.
Have done around 25 trips out to White Island this year already and probably around 30 last year. Pretty special place.
Cheers,
Josh

Nice Intro
Welcome to the site mate. Accident Prone is a bit of a dubious moniker for a deckie though. LOL

Name
haha yeah, thankfully none of my broken bones, flesh wounds or hospital addmissions have happened while on the water.
Although i did have a rope snap on me 2 or 3 years ago landbased fishing as I was climbing down to a ledge, fell about 3-4m and landed on my back with an arm behind me. My pack broke the fall and I only broke 2 fingers and got a few cuts but it could have been worse
