They are mental. Mine used to race around all day even after walking and yes I had a big backyard.

stop the barking early

we lost 2 jack russells on our property one to a dugite and the other loved to chase cars and trucks. the snake victim was the best dog weve ever had, unfortunatly chased the snake into a pipe got bitten but got his revenge before passing. the truck chaser was given to us unfortunatly poorly trained and we battled to teach him better, still a very loyal dog and would get another without hesitation. none of our 3 jacks were inside dogs so i have no tips for that. they are also very inquisitive dogs so either keep them fenced or teach them were home is.

They're bred to be ratters, weren't they?  So they like chasing things down holes?

I have a jack Russell cross. He thinks it's the size of a boxer. Good little dog needs lots of exercise or he sulks. The missus takes him running. Been meaning to take him in the boat for awhile... Been meaning to take my self out in my boat for awhile :P

We got our JR twelve years ago off a farm in SA.

We call her babydog, love's to hunt, loves the family and still carries on like she's 6months old.sleeps on my lap evey night with her big brown eyes looking into mine all night long.So loyal.loves to run, great with the kids.you will have a lifetime pet devoted. We have had lots of dogs, and will allways have a Jack no matter what. They say a dog knows fifty words and our Jack always knows what we are talking about. We talk to her all the time.Sleeps in side in the laundry. and is outside in the day.

My wife said she is never to be allowed on our leather lounge.Oh how my wife has changed!!!!!!!

We've had two JR's...

Sun, 2014-06-08 21:54

...the old girl had to be put down last November at the age of 17. We still have Ruby...she'll be eight this year.

Both were/are inside dogs. Because they grew up with my sons, they have always been great with kids of all ages. Very loyal, tremendous mousers (don't let them near chickens, bobtails, or any other small birds/mammals/reptiles that you don't want dead) and their barking makes them excellent watchdogs.

I've always felt that Jack Russells have hearts that are bigger than their bodies...as said above, I hope to always have at least one.

Boxer

Mon, 2014-06-09 10:37

Never had a jack russell, but we had to put our boxer cross down last year.  He was 15 years old.  He was nearly 40kg when full grown, but was a great dog with little kids.

Unfortunatly we dont have the space for a big dog any more, so interested in the Jack Russell. Kids have their heart set on a pug though.....
