New Point Peron boat ramps

Anyone used the new floating jettys at Point Peron, looks like they've spent a bit off money there ...

I have one small problem with the new setup and I'll see if anyone else notices it , comments ???

Cheers fishfish

they seem a little low

But they are well protected by rubber bumb strip and the cleats could be highher or have post to tie off to

I have used them and think they have have done a pretty good job considering its a free launch area and wash down area nobody should be complaining IMO

Poles

Mon, 2012-11-12 07:22

The pilons should have been down the centre not offset to 1 side, makes it awkward trying to get around the pilons, other than that its all good, got to get me some fenders though.

Pole position would be only

Pole position would be only thing I could pick as well...other than that fairly flash , wish woodies had the rubber protection strips bit more forgiving than concrete

 I think they are awesome

only issue I have is when leading your boat with a rope, some of the pillars are right on the edge of the pontoon so you have to do a reach around  (lol)   but small price to pay. Certainly a way better set up than before  :)

pilons should have been in centre

cleats higher & its a little low, less width to launch & retrieve due to wider gang way , little things but given the amount of money spent ,,,,, give it 7/10

Floating Boat Ramps

Mon, 2012-11-12 10:58

The poles are placed to one side so as to make installing and removing the jetty easier, you will find that there is a removable section on the side of the jetty adjoining the pole, we have a similar set up in Kalbarri, much better than a fixed wooden jetty, so many positives so few negatives.

bloody cleats

Mon, 2012-11-12 18:05

As mentioned it is hard for smaller people to pass ropes around the pylons, but the cleats are way worse. If you have any flare in the bow it doesn't take much of an angle before the cleats gouge big scratches in your hull. Shame to have to use fenders on an otherwise great setup. Would of been great if the cleats were slightly further away from the edge.

new ramps

Mon, 2012-11-12 18:48

Cheers for the comments guys and a few of you pick up on one off my dislikes and thats the offset pillons bit of a pain to throw a rope around but doable, and thanks to "old banger " for clearing that up makes more sense now ..

The issue I have with the new jettys is I fish solo 90% of the time and the new concrete ramp leading up to the jetty is now higher than before { I presume to average out the tide changes } so when launching by your self when you push the boat off the trailer you have to try and climb up the jetty with a rope in one hand and nothing to really pull yourself up on, let alone trying to slide down on your bum onto a moss covered ramp when retreiving ..Fortunatly for me I'm pretty fit and youngish so I can get by but throw in a bit off wind , swell surge and a busy weekend ramp and it could get interesting .

So its either a longer rope {probably double roughly} or try and get the trailer closer to the jetty and use that to try and climb across ???

But all in all good set up and the new re-surface is nice to drive on too...

Cheers fishfish

i think its great they have

Tue, 2012-11-13 06:35

i think its great they have spent some money on the ramps, defo better than the old ones.

only prob i dont like about these style jettys is the white rubber rubs agents the side of the boat and if not careful the cleats can dig into the glass, the one in the river up at maylands left makes in the name on the side of the boat, actually cut into the stickers.

i still like the other style with the upright bollards like woodys have, close enough together to have 2 touching the bunk rubber at all times and keeping the sides away from getting damaged.

i dont use p/peron very often so its all good for me.

best thing is...its still free...some other ramps need to take notice, especially freo, absolute rip off!!

Cleats

Mon, 2013-01-07 20:46

I scratched my boat on the weekend (big flared bow) for the second time and have contacted sea resucue but it's not they're resposibility however they do have someone on a commitee for all things ramps and they have passed my email onto him

hopefully something may get done, maybe you guys who have the same problem with the cleats maybe could email

sea rescue also, the more people complain about it the better chance of getting it changed.

sorry to here mate.

as said, great jettys to walk on but shocking for the tub to tie off.

get something going mate, would be happy to put my name to it, all they need to do is put the uprights on as well, not sure if it can be done to these types of jettys though.

recently i transported a few of these jettys from mandurah to freo boat park, i was chatting with the guys about this problem and they were unaware of this issuse, maybe the guys down p/p are the same.

Mon, 2013-01-07 21:10

I had came very close to hitting them too. Figured i just needed a bigger boat (28ft fury was miles from them ) but that's not going to happen so might have to send them a email too !

I do like the rubber tho, makes easy work with a fender.

 Yeah our bow comes into

Mon, 2013-01-07 21:17

Yeah our bow comes into contact with them if we don't have the stern line tighter, so that's what they do. Still a pile better than the old finger jetties, I just can't underhand why the pylons are offset at the start and not centred.

cleats :(

Mon, 2013-01-07 22:55

Really nice to walk on and get in and out of the boat but i also had the same problem with the cleats last week scratched the front of my boat pretty bad, would hate to see it happen to some of the more expensive boats' so take care when tied up to them especially when theres a bit of swell rolling in. other than that pretty happy with them.

I fired off some emails and got a reply

Fri, 2013-01-11 17:14

I got a phone call from a Guy (via my email to Dept of Transport). This guy has intimiate knowledge of the recent upgrade and told be they are doing a coulpe of small renos to the pontoons. My email about the cleats was the first he had heard of the problem. May I suggest a few more emails be sent to him and some solutions would be good.

They're unable to move the cleats away from the fenders, due to the design, but maybe replace with lower profile or fit extra fendering at the cleats.

I don't use the ramp much but for those that do it would be good to offer solutions. My gut feeling is if an easy fix was offerred he'd get it done. Far better that than a dozen or more boats with dents in them.

Here's he email address -

i had fired one off to the

Fri, 2013-01-11 17:33

i had fired one off to the the previous email already, i will resend to your link.

if they could attach uprights it would solve the prob, or as you say, more protection around the cleats.

another prob with this style jetty is,

in a few years time the rubber becomes very hard from the elements and this will scratch your boat, trust me i know from experiance.

get your deckies to keep it away from the jetty or use some fenders.

all that aside it is still a quallity ramp, prob the best around i think.

cheers mate

Fine

Fri, 2013-01-11 18:34

Got to say I've used it alot since the refurb and think they have done a great job and have no problems with the design.

The cleats dont go near the hull at all. Had far more dramas with the old jettys.

The design of these things is never going to suit everybody and every design boat. Just wondering if those of you having dramas have similar boat designs - large flared bow maybe that can overhang the jetty if you come in on a steep angle?

Yep flared bow

Fri, 2013-01-11 18:59

My Haines Signature was tied up alongside port side to

Sat, 2013-01-12 17:21

and the wind was from the NE blowing the stern out. This made the shoulder the pivot point on the fender. Boat was just in the wrong position near the cleat. Until there is a modification we just need to be aware of the issue and secure the boat so the bow can't overhang the pontoon.

Another victim of those cleats

Mon, 2013-01-21 11:58

Just a warning for Baron sportsman owners , the flare on barons is big enough to come into contact with the cleats . No big damage just a few small scratches that will hopefully buff out . Besides that the ramps are great , the poles dont really bother me but thats cus the missus has to put up with them while i park the car .
