new PR style knot ....
Submitted by Tim Lee on Tue, 2010-10-26 09:30
Want some advice on exposing a new knot ..... After some tinkering i have developed a slim line knot that locks better than any other PR knot or similar that i have seen and can tie quite easily by hand and without the aid of a bobbin etc ....
Am going to post a short video explaining it but before i do id simply like to know that such a nice thing can remain appreciated in my name ....
Anyone got thoughts on securing a name with a technique ....?????

But the questions is: "is it
But the questions is: "is it as strong as a PR knot?".
And as for securing a name, i dont think theres any process. You'd just have to hope that it was original and you popularised the name. It could be that the knot already exists and has a name.

Another "no-name" knot
Another "no-name" knot perhaps?

I don't see the value in creating a strong knot like the PR style, without the aid of a bobbin. The bobbin is there for you to ensure tightness of wraps & most importantly, make it easy to tie.

Dunno, I thought a PR style
Dunno, I thought a PR style knot without a bobbin was an FG knot ;)

well it is. But I hear so
well it is. But I hear so many people complain how hard a PR knot is to tie. But it isn't, especially when using a bobbin (the bobbin does all of the work).

Do any of you boys use wind
Do any of you boys use wind on leader......or is that just cheating.
I like the whole knot tieing business, part of the fun...
Daz, what is the best bobbin to buy.

The shout one is really nice, but then it is $199US or something silly!
I use Mark Richter's windons for my trolling gear, but not usually for jigging.

John, see Honsu, or order
John, see Honsu, or order one from Chris @ Jigs Direct in NZ. Don't waste your money on the shout bobbin. You can buy 7 bobbins for the price of 1 shout bobbin.

Wind ons for me. Can't see
Wind ons for me. Can't see any advantage to tying your own knots. Probable a bit cheaper but when your deckies Dave Cole (makes all Shimano and Richter wind ons) there free. Dave makes wind ons from 60lb to 300lb, he is also experimenting with a twisted wind on leader. Getting good results so far.

Yeah twisted wind ons for me
Yeah twisted wind ons for me are serious connections .... I have used this knot though and landed mulloway to 10kg whilst casting plastics and bibbed minnows ....
Video coming soon, it may well have a name already and been done but thus far i have not yet come across it..

Wind on's
I used a wind-on once only to have it part. If you do use wind-ons, use a high quality one.
Jigging, particularly jigging for sambos puts plenty of pressure & stress on all of your gear! Knots especially!

Well, you have a cyclic
Well, you have a cyclic loading, constantly loading and unloading, and putting several kilos of pressure on each pull. Constantly loading and releasing is going to put a lot more strain on knots. I would say if you had crappy windons, that kind of action could loosen them too? Quality ones shouldnt, but even quality ones have a lifespan :p.
The knots dont take that much longer to do (especially as you need a bimini for your wind on anyways) and you can choose the mono you want a lot more precisely. Plus you can replace leaders more often if they become scuffed up. (well, at least more cheaply :p)
