new reel broken

my new reel was really tight but now works fine just makes a weird noise is it because i got the river water on it or is it faulty and needs returned if its cause of the water is there a way to fix it.

 i would say the water had something to do with it. one thing tho, was the reel tight before you used it or only since it went swimming

Most reels can take a dunking and survive.

a  mate of mines Symmetre played up as if it had sotnes inside jamming up the gearing, would work fine and then just screw up that you wouldnt be able to wind...

thinking that it must have been in saltwater and when it was washed not al the water was out, so the salt dried up into crystals....

Id say the grease is water spoiled with some salt croutons which have stiffened the feel of the reel.
