New setup - what to get?

Hey guys, been tossing up getting a new combo lately, something around the 6kg mark or heavier. I want to use it for flinging lighter lures from like 7 grams to 25grams. Will be used for chasing jacks to tuna, Spangled emperor to dhufish and maybe some light jigging for demersals. I was having a look at the Gloomis GL2 ESP spin 8-15lb, 6'8". It has a nice light tip but the guides seem really weird on how they have placed them out. It also might just possibly be to light for what i want it to do. I wouldnt use it for jigging though.

The other rod is a Shimano Terez 15-30lb 7'2" spin rod. This is ideal for jigging and stopping the bigger class of fish. but i am not sure how it would go casting lures like 1/4 jigheads.

Any body who has tried any of these rods, your feedback is very much appreciated!!

Also if anyone has any other suggestions that would be great!! Would prefer the rod to be around 6'8"-7' and an ideal weight would be around 15-20lb. splitt grip preferred as well.

The reel is pretty much sorted, will probably be a 3000 Sol or 4000 Stradic FJ (or if anyone is selling something like this, let us know!!)

Thanks guys!!

check out the nitro viper or samurai reaction 501, the samurai is made for throwing light plastics but has plenty of grunt in the bottom end.

For the extra 50 bucks i'd definitely get a samurai over a nitro, the titty sics are 10x better than an alconite guide.

Hi mate, have a look at the samurai reaction 302 if your budget allows ($425 from motackle), i have one of these matched to a daiwa certate 2500r and love it, i'd be a bit nervous casting to tuna over the 10kg mark if i cant chase them but would be good for jacks and spanglies.

How much are you looking at spending on this combo?

Hi mate I have been running that same model terez Id say it would be a heavy to cast that lighter stuff.

another suggestion for you would be the new daiwa generation black series. they wont brake the bank either. Ive been running one (swamp donky) for a mounth now im very happy with it. the super caster model would probably be better for casting light stuff

Mate I've got the Terez in question and for the tasks you mentioned, I reckon it's great. I have used mine for jigging and landed some nice dhus, will handle jigs up to about 100g. It will also cast a 7g jighead no worries as well. Caught a couple nice shallow water snapper on 7g jigheads, so no probs there. Matched with a 5k rarenium and it's a ripper setup.

I ended up getting a Lemax

Sun, 2012-12-30 11:21

I ended up getting a Lemax Slimax 6'6" 12-40lb jig rod (Thanks Lewis!!)

Just need to get a reel for it. Will be used for jigging and maybe some other applications but mainly dropping lead and catching demersals.

Was thinking of getting a 5000 Sustain FG and putting some 50lb Super Pe on it. Any other recommendations??
