New Toy - Talica 8
Submitted by Knot Big Enuff on Tue, 2012-07-03 09:40
Here is my latest toy - felt so nice, and can't wait to get some line, and freaken decide what rod to put on (? any advice) ... will mainly be used for bottom bashin, but late during the pelagics season ... will be loaded with 4 Kg mono line for live bait and trolling, which I've got a Spellbinder baitcasting rod for that.
Cheers

Good little reels. I have one of the 1 speeds myself. I loaded it up with about 450-500m of saltiga boat braid PE3. Packed tight with no backing and pretty much no room left, so if you're going to topshot it then 300m of PE3 should load nicely, but you dont really need a super strong PE3.
I have mine on a hearty rise jig force and it matches well, but may be a little light if you're bottom bashing with heavy sinkers (I use mine for plastics, driftbaiting, trolling, and occasionally jigging). Do you know what 'action' rod you're looking for?

Well, in terms of action of
Well, in terms of action of rod, it depends whether you want a jigging style rod (folds away and bends through the butt) or a more traditional bottom bashing rod (stiffer action, only the tip/upper section bends). If bottom bashing with a jigging style rod, you may need to bump it up a class to handle the sinker weight. If you know the max sinker weight you're going to use, you can wrap a strong rubber band round that size weight and take it to a tackle shop and loop it round the eye and see how the rod handles the weight.

Jigging style rod, that's for
Jigging style rod, that's for sure .... I usually tend to go down class with the rods, give the good quality rods in the market nowadays, but what you're saying makes sense. So you reckon, PE 3-4 rod, for PE 3 line would do the trick for me?
Who stockes the HR rods, prefer NOR, or if anyone got one that wants to offload, just PM me.

The reason for going up a
The reason for going up a line class perhaps will be because of the rods ability to handle the sinker weight. I wouldnt really run big sinkers on my jigforce. Its great for bottom bouncing and whiting paternosters though. As mentioned, if you know the max weight of sinkers you want to run, you can pick out a rod anyways. The jigforces are PE1.5 to 3, and they are a bit light PE3 (though I've put some seriously nasty bends on mine yanking in a shark :P)

56gm ... I'd live with that, given the perfect grip it's giving. It looks big for the reel, but the reel is so powerfull.

Undershot it with 300m of thin 20lb braid and you can get 500m+ on the reel ;). I have a saltist LD20 with 600m of tufline and can still firt 100m of 6kg on top.

so you mean undershot the 6kg line, and still get 500+ m of it on the spool?!

For my reel I put 600m of thin 20lb, then I fit 100m of 6kg on top of it. So, using 200m of mono, you could put less braid on undernearth as backing (so the mono is topshot, and 300m of braid underneath). I have a calculator at home I could figure out exact lengths though (and doublecheck how much mono you could have)

Of course... but then you only have 100m of mono... even less point to run a topshot
