Nice Black Bream
Submitted by Newby101 on Tue, 2015-03-03 18:19
Just getting back into fishing at 58. My first decent sized Black Bream (470mm) at Ascot yesterday. ( Anyone have a guess at the weight)? Fought for 5 minutes, thought I'd lost it, tried really hard to break me off. But once he was landed he let me retreive my hooks and let him go back in. He swam off like a dart.
I think he may have been released a few times before we met.

Well done, a bream that size is probably 20 - 30 years old, they are slow growers, good stuff for letting it go back in.

Thanks Rob90
Yes best fish fight for a very long time. The exitement in bringing her in was priceless. The idea of keeping her was not up for discussion. Such a beautiful fish. lots of energy, so much strength. A beautiful creature. (met a girl like that once) Letting her go, (the fish, not the girl), was a real joy fo rme. I release 95% of my catches. It feels great to engage with these amazing fish and then set them free. A better taste often. But I do keep the one that's had a long life and finished the breading cycle. 500mm length minimum. We'll see?/???
Dad says I'll never eat Bream again. He said "I've never seen Bream thst big. So now I have to catch one,,, or I'll starve............But I don'tmind starving as long as there's fish to catch!

Thank you rob90. Yes a Great expidition.I have to say that I feel I'm lucky to have these great rivers to visit. I've been fishing in the Swan and Canning Rivers since I was 4 years old, (Around 50 years). I've never seen so many species in these two rivers.

Yeah Thank you.
My Dad used to catch big bream down at Ascot. He taught me the basics. Then life got in the way and I had to forget Bream for a while. Im back into it now.
Using his tactics with a couple I've learned along the way makes Bream fishing very special for me. I made a promise to my Dad and myself that I would only keep a bream, (for food) if it was over 500mm.
He said;"Well you won't be eating much Bream". He is probably right. But that's ok. We have the greatest sport at our finger tips. The best realaxation, the best active medatation, (we only focus on the line), and the biggest adenaline hit for free. Oh yes I love my fishing!!! And I love huntimg Big Bream.
Oh Yah.

Well done newby101
I find that when you release fish you end up with a better feeling than if you cooked them. Well not all the time but most times.
