NMEA 2000 Fuel Flow sensor for New Chartplotter/fishfinder
I am looking at upgrading the Chartplotter on my boat. The boat is 6.2 metre Centre Cab with a solid Aluminium roof. Currently I have a Furuno LS 4100 sounder which is working well and Navman Tracker 5100.
The Navman tracker has 2 good features 1. it has an external antenna and 2. it has has a fuel flow sensor. Apart from those the Navman is a pile of faeces, the mapping is poor and the speed of processing is glacially slow.
I am looking at getting a Hummingbird 858CX (it has an external antenna) to operate as a chartplotter with the sounder as an nice bonus). The Hummingbird website shows a NMEA 2000 starter kit but I have not been able to find a NMEA 2000 fuel sensor. I have found from Google searhing that Lowrance and Garmin both make NMEA 2000 fuel flow sensors. This means they should plug into a Hummingbird NMEA 2000 network.
Will a either of these fuel flow sensors work in a Hummingbird NMEA 2000 network in reallity?

What engine? You know that
What engine?
You know that you can read the fuel burn straight off plenty of outboards via NMEA2000.

Suzuki
You can get a Suzuki to NMEA2000 connection cable.
Shouldnt matter what sounder it is because they are complying to the NMEA2000 standard.
Only diffenence may be the detail that each sounder brand may allow you to see.

Little to not much, but no no
Little to not much, but no no no that won't stop me posting!
I did notice there is a kit at chsmith; http://www.chsmith.com.au/Products/NMEA2000-Suzuki-Engine-Interface-Cable.html
The plug on the end of that loom (white), its the one for the engine smis port IIRC. There tends to be quote good info on this on THT.

be carefull what you buy
Rob H, theres a lot of miinformation on the net regarding hooking up a suzi engine interface, I got mine from the states at a very big cost saving the cables too, basicaly you need the interface of course the nmea starter kit then another interface cable to hook into the engine I got all mine from browns point marine in the states but as I said massive savings even with postage
and easy to set up once installed
Whoops! just checked brownspoint marine got blown away with hurricane sandy and no longer exists for a while anyway
ch smiths will help you out

thanks guys, my older Lowrance LCX37C already has part of an NMEA system on it but Im not sure what its servicing. Might go out and have a look now at it.
Probably need someone who knows what they are looking at to check it out!

Same
Rob mine is a similar motor vintage to yours and I have had it coonnected since day 1.
Your old lowrance should have the system set up already as that is what the aerial connects to. You may need another T piece and an extension cable for the bus to reach the back of the boat.
The cable for the early 2007 and before engines plugs straight into the port inside the engine cover and the other end straight into the bus network. Hardest bit is running the cable thru the ducting and waterproofing gland in the engine.

i think but not sure
on earlier models the interface connects directly to the motor I needed a sims k8 revese adapter cable to connect mine
(2012) but I just checked and I have a surplus adapter cable here I remember i bought the wrong one initialy so
if you need it you can have it for the purchase price, I.ll check exactly what it is
checked it is a reverse adapter but for ealier models than mine
$85.00

Its looking like that is what I need plus a lead up to the front, my outboards are 2005.

not too sure
but on closer inspection I think it's a trim adapter so maybe not what you need, on two engines I think you need two interfaces two reverse k8 adapters and possibly one backbone lead with the t's plus a power inserter they come in the nmea2000 starter kit, I havent read up on twin enginge installs but it should be easy to do, in the setup it asks you if there is one or two engines. with browns point out of action it's down to ch smith over east or possibly contact haines suzuki themselves, surprisingly a lot of the suzuki dealers dont know about hooking up the engine interface so we have to dig to find the info ourselves but again it's not hard. the k8 reverse adapter connects to the engine, the engine iterface connects to the k8 reverse adapter the nmea backbone cable conects to the engine interface and then the T's connect to the lowrance via a short extension you also connect power into the nmea backbone cable via a T piece
when your ready I'll take a picture and you can see what it http://www.blueheronmarine.com/files/Lowrance_Engine_Interfaces.pdf
on further reading from above link you dont need the k8 reverse adapters they are for 2008 and later

OK so here is whats on the
OK so here is whats on the inside of my panel, looks like just the GPS aerial into a T and then to Lowrance.
So what do I need to get to plug one or both outboards into the system? 2005 DF115x2?

Ok
it looks like you already have the power connection so you dont need that bit, get the nmea2oo0 starter kit
that give you one backbone cable about 5 mtrs, two t pieces and a couple of short extension leads ad an end of line
resistor plug, you then need suzuki engine interface that should go directly into your diagnostic port on the motor
thats all!
in short this lot
www.chsmith.com.au/Products/Lowrance-NMEA-Network-Starter-Kit.html
and two of these

thats the one
but mine is smaller and square but that is why I need the k8 reverse adapter, the end of the engine interface cable is
round!
