at all in the South Western Times today with front page showing Hrimnir Benediktson and Suzanne Bairstow promoting the ban all fishing except dipping for Alfalfa shoots " Save Our Marine Life" roadshow along with some of the usual spiel from JSJ. I wonder if Hrimnir remembers where all those pickled herrings he ate as a kid came from? Soy beans perhaps. I will go along and have a look when it gets to Busselton and partake of the Free Sustainable Fish BBQ. Best to know your enemy i suppose.

And the circus comes to town
Fair dinkum they must think every fish caught gets masserated into 20000 peices. I look after the fish I catch and regularly let fish go in good condition. Why ban that. Its like taking a friggen bike off a kid.
THEY WONT STOP ME!!

not good
but i think we all new it was going to happen, i can handle a licence fee , but why so much for the demersals , and i dont think the ban will make much difference anyway , it will just make people go out and kill the pig before and after the ban

I think they do a good job -
I think they do a good job - there is a balance to be struck between protection and allowing us to do our thing. Currenly the balance is pretty much one way and the fishery has been proven to not be sustainable...overfished by 50% no less!! Despite being under fisheries management for decades...
The Australian Marine Conservation Society puts out a Sustainable Seafood guide, from which I guess this BBQ would come from, which lists the better fish to buy (if you are going to). So in it you will see fish like dhuies and other demersal and vulnerable fish being advised against. In other words, they advise against supporting these commercial fisheries...which for us rec fishers can only be a good thing.
Again balance is the key - they are not likely to totally kill off the commercial fisheries...
The single most important thing is for the fish to come first I reckon. And really, the green groups are the only ones who campaign for this.
Fishing will never be banned - well I certainly hope not. But really, it can't be - the balance point is between those who want to ban fishing and those who dont want to restrict it.
Cheers,
Ewan
