Went on a big mission to day, Gemini to a spot 3 -4 south of rotto Sambo 1, then on to the Sambo barge 10 mile west of rotto.
whats the go? are any around at the moment?
Got some under size Pinks to through back and leather jackets, not to mention th usual Mongrel Wrasse Scurge of the ocean.
wasted my fuel hunting the sambo.
if the wind behaves i better get out to Key biscane..
Is it too early in the year for sambo's???

We saw a banana boat, was
We saw a banana boat, was the southwind B1 or B2? One adult and a couple of kids? I did see one out there at the barges.
There were a lot of fish on the sounder, but I couldn't get my jig into them in time, it was too light. Simo pegged a couple.

We were in the 5.4m
We were in the 5.4m Trailcraft Runabout, there were some other guys there in a little cat too? Now that I've seen your boat, what was it called? I want to see someone paind a banana boat blue and white strip with a yellow bow and transom and call it bananas in pyjamas!
Did you see the guys in a 7m kevlacat out there at the sambo spots with alvey deck winches? Winching for sambos? I don't really get it.

LOL
I bought it with the Banana in pyjama stickers on. Kids told me i had to leave them on, haha.
I alway have been supersticious about bannana's and fishing may be i should take them off, the chemicals in bannana's put the fish off they recon.
Yeah nice looking rig, what sounder you got on there?
I missed the Kevlar Cat, I agree what would be fun catching sambos on a winch? The battle on rod & reel is the best buzz second only to GT Popper fishing in my books.

The boat is Simo's, I was
The boat is Simo's, I was just along for the ride. He has a Navman 6600 IIRC.
The Kevlacat guys hooked up something small, but the fish were off the bite mostly, not really interested in bait. I think the jigs really trigger an aggressive response which is why Simo got one on the jig, but I'm just guessing.

Personal Ban
Thats it I am putting my personal ban on fishing perth's water!
We went out to rhe barge west of rotto again today, only to sacrifice numrous paternoster rigs to the mongrel leather jackets. I am over it! back to reef fishing for till we get some reports sambos are in..
Actually fished the bottom at heaps of spots (paternoster and driftbait), which all had good structure the whole day, pnly to return with nothing in the ice box,
What a barren waste land the ground is between ocean reef and rotto, this area here is where they need to have a fishing ban to get some regrowth happening for a few years for real, the under size pinks and dhu's are few and far between in this area, and never even seen a black arse all in two solid days fishing, Mindarie will be the furthur most south i will be launching now for some time, 2 roks the most. Lancelin or ledge next.
I admit i have a museum piece of a sounder which works in the fishes favour, but i seldom return without a feed fishing north of perth. have they beeing doing secret nuclear testin in these waters or what?
At least my speciality species "wrasse" wont let me down for some entertainment, "go the wrasse"!! Haha!

wrassemaster oceanreef does
wrassemaster oceanreef does have good ground and you do catch fish there, may have just been a bad day.
Sambo's we have found in close in good numbers, like 20-28m of water behind the reefs.

We visited Key Biscayne yesterday
There were plenty of Sambos there of all different sizes. There was also a few Yellow Tailed Kingfish around. Definitely worth a trip if you get the right conditions.
