No Snapper at North Mole
Hi everyone,
first report-
My self and a friend managed to get into north mole last night (done nothing illegal to get in either before anyone jumps in, ie: DID NOT use bolt cutters, angle grinder, ram down gate, remove any tempory fences or anything like that!!, lets just say we found a loop hole in there system) - drove in the whole way parked next to the red light house.
When we got there seems like we werent the only ones that wanted to chase the snapper, there was one other car already there with 2 other blokes just starting to rig up, got chatting to them and asked how they got in and they said they had removed the temp fencing and put it back behind them. i thought they were even keener than us!!
before we arrived at north mole at about 8pm we had already put in a couple hrs from the rock wall in front of the servo which got nothing but a couple herring for bait and another couple of hrs at south mole which produced nothing either!
So we fished (the 4 of us) from the wall which faces south mole from approx 8pm till about 10am (thats when the 2 other blokes left), for a total of zero snapper!! between us we had every fresh bait, bought bait, home made burley, bought burley every thing under the sun and we didnt even a bite let alone land a snapper, i think the count was 3 tahwine, 2 whiting and 3 herring by sun up and 4 salmon by the time the 2 blokes left.
after they had left one other guy rocked up and we fished on till about 12 then port authority rocked up and threatend to call police cause someone had cut the chain/lock, so the bloke that had just rocked up was quick smart outta there!
spoke to the port authority guy and he couldnt tell us when it would be opened again but he said reason it was closed was the mess from the storm on the road at the entrance was a hazard - you can see why, theres more limestone on the road than road, massive chunks of kerb all over the road etc, it was pretty hektic we had to zig zag quite a fair way in to avoid the mess! and also he said that water had leaked into some powerbox and someone could get electricuted and that was a reason also for closing the mole!!
thanks

When asked by a non-fisherman 'how many fishing rods do you really need?' the correct answer is either:
n+1 (where n is the number of fishing rods you currently own); or
n-1 (where n is the number of fishing rods which would cause your significant other to dump you.

Have to ask - after everything the port authority guy told you
you think what you did was the right thing to do, no concerns about that?

Rules and right not always same thing
Sorry but I kinda support the young fella, If he truly didnt move , disturb a barrier and lituary just drove straight in
then port authority cant really complain.( and if someone threated to snap his rod etc , then even more reason to not hold them in high reguard)
Theres another post about the asi groyne been shut on here, so theres less and less areas for our keen young fellas to fish ( its alright for boat owning, more financely sucure groups)
so keep out of trouble mate , but still fish were you can , when you can, and just hope one day a state govt will realize what rec fishing means to the community, esp young
blokes with time on there hands.

I agree mate - if I recall
I agree mate - if I recall correctly, threatening to damage someone's property is a criminal offence.
It would be right about the time that the guy told me he was going to snap my rod that I would have told him to f*ck off and leave me alone before I called the cops on him instead!

kingfisha1 - we just used
kingfisha1 - we just used like a pagnoster(?) rig but instead of having the sinker dangling down just clipped it onto the tri swivel bit, and 2 number 9 gamagatsu occy hooks snelled on about 1meter of 80lb green jinkai, but the two other blokes there burleyed up crazy crazy styles to bring the salmon in and once the burley was gone so where the fish!!
paully - absolutley no concerns, because we done absolutley nothing wrong to get in there so we new we couldnt get in trouble for any thing, and if he had just asked us to leave like normal instead of coming in there with a chip on his shoulder threatening to snap our rods etc i would of packed up straight away and left but instead i decided to have one more cast while he stood there and waited (those that know me know that i can make 'the one more or last cast' last forever if i wanted too! lol), but unlucky for him there happened to be a stray craypot that had kinda washed up near the head, i casted straight onto that and snagged but intead of snapping my line i thought i would try to save my rig and decided to try skull drag it in- nearly made it too, got it about 10m from the rocks then it snapped, but made it last about 30min which i hoped pissed him off a bit more!!
