Non-fishing related - Architect costs

Folks,
We are at the beginning of a house renovation to a 1990’s 3x1 that we are ultimately looking to convert to a 4x3 + study with additions to both sides of the property. We will also be removing some internal walls so need engineering done to replace/install some loadbearing beams.
I’ve met with an architect who has come up with some great ideas, and he is quoting me $6k to complete the job including drafting, certified engineering, planning submission and energy rating.
I initially budgeted $4k for the basic drafting but the project has grown legs since then with some major roofing changes.
I have no idea if that sounds about right? Any feedback or experience shared would be appreciated…

Reasonable
Doesnt sound too unreasonable. Considering it will include engineering as well.
I did then the best that I knew how. When I knew better, I did better.

Reasonable
I'm designing a home to build atm, the drafting alone is $2,800, I have to organise all the rest.

Sounds about right
especially if engineering is included.

Thanks
Thanks guys!
Just paid his deposit. I was pretty happy with it but had no feel for what it should cost...
This bloke has probably saved me that much just in a few design changes to keep the build cost down.

just make sure it is 6k -
just make sure it is 6k - final -
some charge a fee then a % of the build cost - am sure he would have disclosed this from the outset if it were the case though.

I do plenty of extensions
I do plenty of extensions and Reno’s if anyone needs my services in the future I’m happy to look after Fishwrecked members.
Bit late now but for an extension of that size being a building designer I could have kept the drafting costs down a fair bit.
All the best with the project!

SOounds reasonable, im
SOounds reasonable, im studying architecture atm, sometimes they charge a flat fee for smaller jobs, otherwise its usually a percentage of the project, paid in installments covering various stages in the design/drawing etc.
Fishing and catching are two different things. But i want to learn how to catch.
