North Fremantle flathead fishing info please

Fished for years, and Lucky enough to have a chance to stay at Pier 21 Apartments over the long weekend.
Know those waters/flats are home to some nice flatties. No cooking facilities so would be purely for sports/fun but have never fished there or other flats fishing for flatties.
Any advise on tide, lures and technique would be greatly appreciated as between the have to do's will have some spare time and thought would give this a bash. Also have fly rods from 4wt to full saltwater to try (but the sailfish ones obviously wont come out of the holders).
Mrs is a keen as hell fisho to but prefers baits. Suggested the blowies will blow her away so might even entice her into artificials.
Cheers
Neels

Big johns bucks tails, small minnow lures that dive deep enough to kick up some sand every now and then or even a saltwater fly with a running ball sinker will get the job done on the spinning gear.

Can't help much with the fly gear but any fairly large profile wet fly should work if you retrieve it near the bottom. Probably 5/6wt outfit would be best depending on the wind

You could try soft plastics but like bait the blowies will destroy them which becomes a bit expensive

Used to slay them there on these and bucktail jigheads, walk up and down and buy some oil and alfoil plenty of bbqs around the way.

There's some nice flats a stone's throw away from you just in front of Gilbert Frazer Oval. If there's no action on the flats head up the other way and there's a jetty near the Water Police and you can cast out into the Rocky Point channel and hop your lures back to the drop off. The blowies around there are plague proportions so soft placcies is an expensive option there.

My go to lures for flatties are the Ecogear SX40 and the Ecogear ZX35/45 but the last time I chased the flatties I grabbed a couple of Big John's bucktail jigs and they are deadly caughting flatties, flounder and tailor with them. My 6y old boy nailed a monster flounder with one so the Mrs shouldn't have too much trouble if they're around and on the bite.

Between the traffic bridges

Tue, 2017-05-30 10:29

A bit cold for total Flatty madness but a few still seem to be showing up.

As the others have said jigs, little deep diving minnows and prawn imitations are the go for lures (the prawn imitations were my go to this season).

Between the traffic bridges always seems to be the most productive for me in that area.  There is a nice drop off not far from shore that runs along there, just cast over the edge and slowly hop or work your lure back.  East or Stirling Highway I would work the sand patches in amongst the weed beads.

Never really worried about tides for Flatties I always just head out when I have an opportunity.  I would imagine run in and run out would be best though.

Thanks guys
Also thought I might try a new lure I used - Ecogear ZX40 Prawn imitation for YF whiting in the Peel estuary that was a killer, as long as there wasn't to much weed.
Suspect other bottom dwellers might go it to.
Was also going to try and chill on E Shed chasing slimeys and scallies etc.
You still never know but a salmon might still be around in my dreams.

Flounder love the ZX lures.

Flounder love the ZX lures. Even caught a gobble guts with one.

There's monter YFW around there but I've never been able to temp one onto a lure yet I do real well in the Peel estuary. Even caught a dozen 30cm models right in fro of Murphy's Pub so it can't be related to the boat traffic.

beautiful spot

i walk around there most days and see the odd flatty shoot off into the depths, I'm always watching for them

never fished it though (the dog seems to think lures are something a toy to chase... ruining any attempt at stealth)

saw a pretty good sized cobbler last week in around the rocks in front of pier21

definately see the most activity around sunrise and sunset

only to keep in mind is that being a weekend, the boat wash sometimes murks up the water (weekdays are much clearer)
