Obsession hardtop And home made outriggers

Hi Guys,

I told  you in my last post I was go build a hardtop, well all done smashed it out in a couple of days

I knocked up a timber jig from pine and ply with frames shaped to match the aluminium frame to support the top so I could get the camber to match. Bought my 10 mm Corecell which is a composite foam ( rebuilt our whole boat with this product) from Kirkside Fibreglass in Ozzi Park stapled the sheets to the jig and glassed one side at a time. I would have liked to set up a infusion pump and vacuum bagged this for a real light weight product though as this is a very budget rig  on a shoe string budget it wasn't to be.

By the time I had it glassed with chop strand mat and stiitched cloth, rolled on a flow coat finish it weighed about 24 kg not to bad considering it is 2m x 2m with no bracing except for the alloy frame.

Decided I may as well completely finish this project and made my own outriggers as well bought some reelax bases and  got hold of some rod  blanks and made the poles just have to rig them up now. So she is officially finished just have to do a gelcoat respray on the forefoot at some point, think that can wait till next winter. Now it's time to join Perth game fishing club and  get in to the fishing scene.

That's a real good looking bit of work you have done there.
Are the outrigger pole fibreglass. Reason I ask is I'm thinking of making up a set and wondered if fibreglass poles would be stiff enough.

The secret to a good

The secret to a good outrigger is a stiff pole. Reelax, topshot and a few other do good glass poles but the best stuff hitting the market now are a carbon, glass blend. Stiff and light.
