Ocean Reef Saturday

For those that fish out of Ocean Reef I thought I would warn you your ramp could be a little busy this weekend.

The Australian Anglers Association is holding its 2006-07 State Boat Angling Championship on Saturday. Not sure how many boats will be there but I would say it would be a few.

If the comp gets cancelled Saturday it would be held on Sunday.

Yep, thanks Tim, we are holding the Coipasa Classic on Sunday so we will be praying for good weather on both days so their comp doesn't interfere with ours. (Albeit that ours is a very tiny event in comparison.) I'll let our guys know about the event so they launch from Hillaries or Mindarie instead.

Cheers

We hope to have a truck load

We hope to have a truck load of pics and stories to post after this weekend. Ian Keay from fisheries is still keen to dissect all the dhuies at the weigh in so I'll try my best to get some of that on film for everyone to see what it is they do.
I'm starting to get a bit excited at the prospect. Last year's comp was a blast. Yee Haa!!

Cheers

"Ian Keay from fisheries is still keen to dissect all the dhuies at the weigh in".

That allmost sounds like a pre brag Andy.

Nah Just Kidding. Sounds like you've organised a good day and hope it all goes well for you.

Not me... I need to catch some other species if I'm going to win this comp. (More points for a 750g whiting than a 10kg dhuie, so I'll be focussing elsewhere)

We have over 20 anglers competing at this stage, so hopefully there will be a couple of dhuies in amongst them.

Good to See

Good to see a comp organised that doesnt focus on catching big dhuies. A bit of insentive to target other fish is always a good thing.

Hope you have a good weekend

Worked hard on that aspect Tim.

We purposely left Sambo's off the species list for the same reason.

However, there is a biggest Dhufish prize, as most guys fish the same sort of ground and there is a high probablility that someone will get a good one, wether they are targetting them or not.

I think the way we have it structured as soon as you catch a Dhuie you will be downsizing hooks and trying for Baldies, Harlequin, snapper, skippy etc otherwise you will be missing out on points. They will also be moving to sand patches to get their whiting and flatties etc or trolling for tuna / spaniards / tailor etc. The idea will be to spread the load and the skills if you want to win the major prize. A $995 aquarium fully stocked and set up, from Unique Aquariums. I'll post the prize list and score sheet up under another thread so you can see the idea of the points system is to reward exceptional captures for each species rather than rate a Dhuie as the beez neez.

wish I had have seen this post....

Didnt bother logging onto VSR...took over an hour for competitors to log on!!!!

Very quiet out there with that brisk easterly....could hear a few boats talking about staying inclose to target whiting, gars and herring :)
