OH reel to match Saltist PE2-3

Hey

I currently run a marquesa MA12 and it works fine but maybe a little heavy. The Saltist reels might be a little wide for my liking (I like the weight to sit directly over the rod) .... wondering if anyone can recommend another OH to match the Saltist rod?

used for metro demersal jigging 120 - 200gms. Also use it up north but same jig weights.

When asked by a non-fisherman 'how many fishing rods do you really need?' the correct answer is either:

n+1 (where n is the number of fishing rods you currently own); or

n-1 (where n is the number of fishing rods which would cause your significant other to dump you.

Thanks lads. I think the ocea 1500 is only 5 grams or so lighter (555gms) than the marquesa. Am looking for something to bring the weight down. The weight of the saltists is a bit closer to what im looking for.

Perhaps im just being a handbag and should just switch to spin

Saltists ld35, I think it is the narrower spool, I'm in the process of ordering one local, to suit my hearty rise jigforce. I have seen them handle 25kg sambo's. Just got to strip it down, regrease the bearings and drag, and keep the water out.

Well the ocea would be stretching it so probably up to $500.  Im sort of at a cross road. Whether to enhance the OH setup or move to spin for my heavier jigging. Currentlt only spin for SPs and light jigging.... argh conundrum

I mentioned on another thread recently to jump on that Saltiga z30 in the classifieds. Not sure if it has sold but they are a brilliant reel and is 445 grams. The Talica 8 is another option. A slightly left field one is the Penn Torque. You can pick the star drag 12 up at a good price and it too is pretty light. My brother has the 25N and it's a very good reel.

Further left field is to look at the Daiwa Ryoga Bay jigger. It's a Saltiga on Roids with a level wind to boot. A tad more than $500 though.

I think the Z30 though is the pick at those levels mentioned earlier.

I have recently got the z40 and it's brilliant once you get used to overhead they are much better for heavy jigging and light jigging aswell. My current light setup is spin but am considering going to oh after using the z40

I just bought a pluton from here, on special for $300. With shipping and 300 m of daiwa braid it came to $400 to the door.

http://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Team_Daiwa_Pluton_Casting_Reel/descpage-DPLTR.html

this is the jdm version, the only difference being a shallower spool and a synchro level wind, which admittedly would be handy for jigging. And the sexy jigging handle.

just be aware that they are a pretty small reel, about the size of a abu 4600 but they're built like a saltiga. I reckon it will be the ducks nuts for up to about 50 m but not sure I'd wanna jig the barges with it due to the reduced spool diameter with that much line out. I'm going to look into modding mine to see if I can fit the extra gear to synchro the levelwind.

Smocks I have one of those

Mon, 2013-03-11 20:32

Smicko I have one of those Ryoga bay jiggers. They have a lot more than the synchro level wind. They have two more bearings, they have Hyper digi gear which is the C6191 marine bronze used in the Saltiga spinners. The star drag saltigas use machine cut alloy gears.supposedly a better drag plus a double stopper. I found this out a while back when I asked in the link below.

By the way they now also make a 2025 size which has more line capacity.
