Old Fremantle Traffic Bridge

I have been thinking about spending some more time fishing here over the next few weeks. Has anyone had any success here using heavy sinkers to counter the strong currents?
My thoughts being that mulloway/fish in general will be using it as a highway after a tide reversal, but the current absolutely flies through. Has anyone found it worth the extra effort or should I just stick to peak tides with no current...?

back in the day
back in the day if you could cast far enough to the rail bridge you would get jumbo tailor(attracted in by the lights) but the only blokes i saw that could cast that far were the Italian blokes with their bamboo rods , me and my mate used to crawl out under the train bridge and drop hand lines down and pull a few jumbo tailor out of the lighted water, it was a bit scary when a train went overhead , but what was more scary was the Italian blokes shouting at us from the traffic bridge

We're you the guy with character
Down there, the buggers closed the entrance holes up, was a great spot but cockheads dropped sinkers on the river tour boats

Traffic bridge
I fished the old traffic bridge many years ago on a regular basis at night
caught heaps of chopper tailor, speared cobbler close to shore, scooped king prawns and watched the bloke who taught me how to fish land big mulloway on heavy hand lines using live tailor or tailor fillets for bait
it was an amazing place 50 years ago
i too used to climb into the railway bridge and sit under the passing trains while pulling up tailor on a handline
the good old days
fished the traffic bridge ten years ago and caught a few nice silver bream but nothing else.
brought back many memories

Gee, people are showing their age now
I had some very good fishing and prawning experiences from the old traffic bridge at certain times of the year you could fill your sugar bag with a great mix of good table fish in a very short period of time. Big tailor the odd mulloway and skippy, the hardest thing about the fishing was riding your bike home to Cottesloe along the Stirling Hwy with no lights at 10 or 11 o'clock at night with a bamboo rod and a hessian bag of fish over one shoulder and a bag containing your fishing gear over the handle bars.
I can't see why that new rock groyne shouldn't hold some good fish if you can get to it.

...and me
Me and my mate used to climb down the wooden struts into the central area, then have a rope to pass our gear down. Reverse it for the trip back up. Seemed ok when I was 16-18, but I look at it 44 years later and it scares the crap out of me
